Phil UKby Phil - Café LA Can Light Rays filter be animated like Trap Code Shine?? - 17 years agoI just found the glow filter (light rays in FCP 5.1.4) and was wondering whether on basic graphics you can get that Shine effect that trap code does with After effects that has the light shining from behind. I tried and failed. Cheersby Phil - Café LA Checking out FCP 6 on Apple homepage... - 17 years agoLooks absolutely fantastic...I did not know the Coen brothers use FCP..Cool..But...I have difficulties with RT on my computer...beachballing, slow...I have one of the latest mac pro systems...and before we invest I want to make sure it will all work without having to live with the fact that the mac pro I bought may be a dud which someone who replies to this phorum suggested...they could be right.by Phil - Café LA Re: 4 by 3 - the Canvas window - Beta SP projection...?? - 17 years agoCheers mate...I'm sure you are right...if a prjector says 4:3 it should be 4:3 but nothing seems written in stone.by Phil - Café LA 4 by 3 - the Canvas window - Beta SP projection...?? - 17 years agoThis is a 4 by 3 edit to be used at a conference using a beta sp projector - however the film itself has been digi beta, DVD, HDV and DV and I had to blow up certain clips beyond the safe area of the canvas: does anyone know if a Beta sp projector project frames beyond the size of the canvas (a 16:9 FHA frame fits FCPs canvas perfectly...I hope this makes sense..cheersby Phil - Café LA Re: Error: Out Of memory???? - 17 years agoThanks Koz, I checked disc activity and system profile and it all seemed fine...I am not savvy enough to check buffers and cache' ... I took off Unlimited RT and now the system is happier and I can render by sections...an RT thing? Would 6gb RAM sort this? Cheers Philby Phil - Café LA A Question for KOZ - 17 years agoRef: Error: Out of memory - earlier thread...thanks for all your help, my boot drive is seperate from SATA (3 striped drives) - I was wondering if after capturing everything at 10 Bit whether I could take the project down to 8 bit or even DV - this is a corporate conference piece for Decca and not TV broadcast spec...this would help with this niggling render problem me thinks and hopes...what doby Phil - Café LA Re: Error: Out Of memory???? - 17 years agoOne internal drive...no firewire...internal drive under one third full. Using unlimited RT, whenever you play an unrendered title (orange line above) in 2nd video layer all stops with the dropped frame window.by Phil - Café LA Re: Error: Out Of memory???? - 17 years agoNothing has changed..I started running RT unlimited...there is alot of different media but the machine should handle it with relative ease...it is'nt...renders start slow then gradually speed up - that is - when they don't stop and say Error: Out Of memory...this just started happenning today. Cheers John...by Phil - Café LA Re: Error: Out Of memory???? - 17 years agoYes it is three drives striped...the project uses uncompressed 10 bit SD, DVD ripped and converted to 10 bit and HDV...there are jpegs and title making up 4 video layers...other than that it's buisiness as usualby Phil - Café LA Error: Out Of memory???? - 17 years agoUsing mac pro 3 ghz quad intel, 4 Gb RAM and 1 tb internal hard drive. Using 10 uncompressed SD with RT set to safe on the latest Tiger/FCP 5.1.4 and the latest Quicktime. Renders have suddenly become slow: a window also popped us saying Error: Out Of Memory. I have tons of memory...I don't get it...still not convinced by this machine.by Phil - Café LA Re: Is 16:9 footage acceptable in a 4:3 program? - 17 years agoThanks guys, lucky for me is that it's cool to run the 16:9 with the letterbox amidst the 4:3...cheers..by Phil - Café LA Is 16:9 footage acceptable in a 4:3 program? - 17 years agoI know this forum covers aspect ratio very thoroughly..however, being in a situation where everything I deliver is 16:9 FHA, I am slightly unsettled with the prospect of delivering a 4:3 program with some16:9 w/letterbox footage cut into it...is this acceptable? I get flagged by tech teams on occasion by dropping 4:3 in a 16:9 program...tips please would be greatly apprieciated.by Phil - Café LA creating rostrum effects with zoom in FCP 5.1.4 - 17 years agoI wish to create rostrum type zooms using jpegs. I have done this in the past in final cut but found it looks messy (like field flicker) and if using several video layers the fade ins and fade outs were wierd. They have to look spot on. I use the flicker filter which is great but sometimes creates a slight blur. Any tips please and thank you. Phil UKby Phil - Café LA Re: Input for voiceover tool?? - 17 years agoNo sir it won't cook my breakfast but Voiceover tools give you count ins and place V/O exactly where you want it in the time line so why does FCP have a voiceover tool that cannot be used. Phil in the UKby Phil - Café LA Re: Input for voiceover tool?? - 17 years agoThis baffles me...I worked on Discreet software for years with the old Targa boards and I always used a voiceover window with a senhieser mic. All this time and niether Kona nor Mac have'nt solved this niggling problem. Thanks guys.by Phil - Café LA Input for voiceover tool?? - 17 years agoI am using the new mac pro 3 ghz, 4 gb RAM, G Raid and internal Hitachi..latest tiger..FCP 5.1.4 etc and I now it is tricky getting analog sound into fcp. I have an AJA Kona 3 with the AJA breakout box which has 4 XLR inputs..can I put a mic through and use the voiceover tool? And if I can, How Do I Do This? Cheers..by Phil - Café LA Re: decklink HD Extreme -- how does this sucker work? - 17 years agoI used a decklink extreme and while it lived (it died after a year) it worked fine: Check system prefs/decklink to make sure of correct output settings. I used the SDI out/ins going into a digi beta deck and ran a cable into a broadcast monitor. The breakout bax that came with the card however never worked though.by Phil - Café LA Re: OT: Can anyone out there make me feel better about owning a Mac? - 17 years agoI always deinterlace before making a quicktime (SP) for DVD burning and it always looks great. Philby Phil - Café LA Frame rate and shooting HD. - 17 years agoIn the UK, HD shooting is still in the dark ages compared to the US. I know this is slightly unrelated to FCP but most of the people I've spoken on this phorum who work with HD are American...so....We have been told there is a certain Panasonic camera that shoots at 60 fps then translates to 25 pal when digitized into a computer...news to me but that's what we've been told...we wish to shoot at 3by Phil - Café LA Re: FCP 5.2.4 sync issue - 17 years agoAh you know what I mean...the system is going out via AJA breakout box componant Y out. I am not sure what you mean by Offset in System Prefs. Thanks Shane.by Phil - Café LA FCP 5.2.4 sync issue - 17 years agoI have noticed since upgrading to FCP 5.2.4 that the viewer and canvas are slightly out of sync compared to mt Broadcast monitor. Actually it did this before upgrading but now media I have captured also plays out of sync when viewing in the viewer...weird...Cheers Phil UKby Phil - Café LA FCP 5.1.2's audio filters... - 17 years agoI have worked on FCP for a few years now and am only just starting to check out the audio filters available...usually in my work the audio has been put through a dubbing suite so I never have had to utilize this part of the FCP set up. I am going to work on stuff that with have PTCs recorded on a camera mike and am looking for any tips on how to make it sound richer and is there a way to limit thby Phil - Café LA |
