I have been using an Canon XL1a for the sch stuff, but always have focus problems w/ stock lens. Any thoughts for an entry level tapeless camera under 3k w/ a decent wide zoom lens (say 28/30mm to 200mm, 35mm comparable) andby nick vincent - Café LA Re: Suggested Upgrade - 14 years agoI have a 1.8gh G5 3gb sdram 2 cpus 3gb memory and running FCP 5.1.4 still capturing from XL1a footage. If I decide to go tape-less would going to FCP6 be necessary for file transfer. Any advise for a good story teller doing docu/industrials since '78 thanks, nick vincentby nick vincent - Café LA capture probs w/ XL1a footage - 14 years agoAny thoughts? I shoot on XL1a, when I capture from same camera or a Sony DCR-HC38 via firewire on a G5 to FCP 5.1 I have errors or problems...but it always works w/ a borrowed XL1s. Could it be my drivers? and how could I check them? Thanks for any ideas, (Video-one is looking at it right now and can't find any problems) thanks, nickby nick vincent - Café LA FCP spot crop - 15 years agoDoes anyone know how to make a crop in the canvas like a circle or spot light in FCP 5.1.4? I need to increase exposure on a stage and I want it to look like a spot light is turned on in a cropped area. Thanks, Nickby nick vincent - Café LA idvd 5.0.1 -34506 error - 15 years agoI put a self cont. 1hr movie made in FCP5.1.4 sent in w/ 23 chpt markers to idvd 5.0.1... it makes to burn stage then gives me an error message #-34506 DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THAT ERROR IS? and why? Not enough strength?by nick vincent - Café LA multiple firewire outputs - 16 years agoIs where a way to record DV onto 3 standalone DVD recorders (pioneer DVR 310) via firewire from recently added PCI card to my G5. From External Video FCP as source? Thanks, Nickby nick vincent - Café LA multiple firewire outputs - 16 years agoCan you with external video FCP have 3 firewire connections from added PCI card in back of PM G5 record onto standalone pioneer (firewire) burners at the same time thru DV input? Thanks, Nickby nick vincent - Café LA Re: random flicker external video - 17 years agoMuch of the time though, I just make a test DVD w/ my stand alone Pioneer burner and use the external video right off the timeline. Even on a sequence of just jpg w/ keyframes for moves I get the 'flicks' one in 2 min then maybe another min.,30 sec and so on. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of video it is. I recently have had some firewire problems w/ just my XL1...in the 4 pin connector onby nick vincent - Café LA Re: random flicker external video - 17 years agoIt only happens on the monitor.nickby nick vincent - Café LA random flicker external video - 17 years agoWhile I'm in FCP and am just in paused or playing in timeline I get random flicker type through frame like quick left to right pan fast through. I have fcphd 4.5, G5 using XL1 for external dv source. Anyone know what gives w/ this. Thanks, nickby nick vincent - Café LA freezes on transitions during playback - 17 years agoI have FCPHD 4.5 on G5 and have problems with slipping randomly on cuts during playback...as well as during most dissolves and some transitions I get a little freeze at the beginning of the transition. I have had some firewire problems w/ my 4 pin port on XL1, but it captured ok. any thoughts? thanks, nickby nick vincent - Café LA Re: firewire issues - 17 years agoYes I am using sony dvd-R from a stack off 50 from dbl distributing ,AZ, I guess it could be that but rarely do I have probs w/ the dvds. could it be something w/ the camera's speed or bit rate not jiving w/ the dvd player? After a test I did w/ a sony mini dv set up the same way I had no problems so I sent in the camera to Video One Repair in Newbury Park so they could check out the connector,by nick vincent - Café LA firewire issues - 17 years agoI realize this is not a FCP question but you guys are always so helpful I thought i just might try! I was shooting w/ XL1 w/ out tape going directly to a stand alone DVD burner (pioneer dvr 310) via 4 pin firewire cable, for an instant DVD.I just need to finalize for 1 min. and can give right to client. It was working fine the 1st few 40 min sessions (Horse Drisage) Then I would get a message iby nick vincent - Café LA Re: freezes during playback - 17 years agodazzz right...but it's always my falt, but in some cases it is forgiving if you have 'little' dropped frame prob. it can let you slide.by nick vincent - Café LA Re: capture settings - 17 years agoWhy is it sometimes things in pref or other places just have a mind of there own and w/out changing any settings, it will just change itself? nickby nick vincent - Café LA Re: freezes during playback - 17 years agoYes Thank-you, I re captured it from the camera source of orig DV, XL1 and it works great now. My 1st try was captured on my Sony GV-D300 mini-dv deck. Which, most of the time has worked fine, but it's been a while a # of years since it's been gone through, and corrected up to factory specs... so the 2 match up. nickby nick vincent - Café LA freezes during playback - 17 years agoI have FCP4.5 HD It always freezes during playback at the same place everytime. then it continues, stumbling on but without audio. I was having problems w/ dropped frames orig. so i unchecked in user pref. not to abort capture w/ dropped frames. Could this be the problem? Thanks much for help...nickby nick vincent - Café LA FCP freezes capturing to external HD - 17 years agoHi, I have G5 10.4.6 FCP 4.5 capturing mini-dv from sony GV-D300 deck, footage from XL1a works ok to internal drives but getting full. When capture 'now' to seagate 300GB ext. FCP freezes up. On 'get info' for seagate file system is MS-DOS (FAT32). Do I need to formate drives? how do I do this if so, any ideas?
