Problems with scrolling text in FCP. - 14 years ago
Dear All, I have been dealing all day with this silly little problem which has become a big problem! I am grateful to any help from anyone. Am working on a Powerbook G4, OS 10.4.9, FCP 4.5HD, DV NTSC project. I put in scrolling text credits at the end of the film over black slug. THe credits jitter like crazy as they scroll up the screen. Also when I output to a quicktime with no coby Robert - Café LA
How convert .mov to .flv?? (do not have compressor) - 14 years ago
Dear Everyone, thanks in advance to anyone who reads this. I have edited a trailer on FCP HD 4.5 which I need to convert to a .flv (320x240pixels) for my website. My compressor does not work. Hey Andy! I think I just figured it out. In the menu for Sequence->Settings>General> Anamorphic 16:9 needs to be checked. Then it works without rendering!!!! What a relief and a timesaver!! Thanks! Robertby Robert - Café LA

Hi Andy! Thanks for your reply. I cannot find "DV PAL anamorphic" in the menus!!???????? There is only a "DV PAL" option! Thank you! Robert PS In the browser the clips were all automatically checked as "Anamorphic" in the "Anamorphic" column.by Robert - Café LA

Hello Everyone, thanks in advance to anyone reading this and especially if you have any advice. I shot in miniDV PAL on a Sony Z1 with the camera set to 16:9. Then I captured the footage and it just came in as 16:9 without my having adjusted anything on FCP HD 4.5. Now I have started editing. When I place a clip on the timeline it has to be rendered!!! Hi Scott, thanks once again for the information. I was looking at the Nattress website. Do you mean the Big Tool Box which has many filters including noise reduction? Without wanting to sound cheap, there is no way to just buy the noise reduction filter alone without having to get the whole package is there??? Thanks a lot! Cheers, Robertby Robert - Café LA

PS Hi SCOTT sorry one thing I just noticed with the shadowhighlight plugin that I wanted to ask you about: Q> Is it true that the images goes a bit more grainy after applying the plug in? Even so I still think it looks better than when it was too dark. Thanks, Robertby Robert - Café LA

Hey Everyone! Wow thanks so much for your help! Scott I got it to work using your instructions - it was opening toast by default. And just by throwing the filter on the clip it already looks much better without my having fiddled with the settings yet, which I now have to learn. So great. Sorry I am very inept at all of the computer stuff. I have been trying to do the download and I get the .bin file. But then it tells me to extract the plug in from the .bin file. So I shot a bunch of interviews INDOORS and the viewfinder of the camera (not mine), Sony Z1, deceived me and I should have brought a film light but none of that can be changed now. Hello All! Thanks in advance to anyone reading this and for any advice anyone can give me. I am STUCK!! I shot a bunch of miniDV Pal on a Panasonic HVX-200(the P2 HD camera-but just shooting miniDVpal). Now I am trying to capture these tapes with my little Panasonic NV-GS250 miniDV Pal camera. Thanks both of you for your help. Wow the DVD studio pro 3 is still creating the mpeg 2 - already 10,5 hours and still not done (original file is 1 hour quicktime 12.8gb- and I have 5 of these to do!!!-could take a week!!) Hello All, thanks to everyone here - I think this is a wonderful thing. I am once again having a problem and am running out of time for this project! I have about 36 hours left! I have 5 one hour mini DV ntsc tapes which I digitized into FCPHD 4.5. I have exported quicktimes which are about 12.9GB each. Now I need to make a DVD of each hour of footage. Hello All, thanks to anyone for their help in advance. So far I have been using external lacie d2 Firewire 7200rpm harddrives for editing with my powerbook g4 on FCP HD4.5. As I would like to get a lighter drive for travelling I am looking at the lacie portable harddrive with usb2.0 and firewire and 5400 rpm. Hello Everyone, this is a very naive question and I apologize. I am shooting miniDV ntsc on a canon xl-1 in 4:3 format. Q: Is it right to have the timeline set to ntsc DV (3:2)?? (I also saw a setting ntsc 4:3) I always assumed it was ntsc dv (3:2) but when I export the quicktime movie from my timeline and then look at this in the quicktime program, the image looks a bit squashed, ie eby Robert - Café LA

Hello All, I hope I did not overlook anything on the FAQs but I am making subtitles on FCP HD4.5 for my documentary. These will be projected from a DVD in an exhibition space (maybe 6 -9 foot wide screen). Are there a standard font and font size for subtitles????? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! Hi Derek, thank you once again for helping me out! I followed the procedure and I hate to say it, but the image looks mushy and out of focus again. It seems to come from changing the center position of the image ( motion->basic motion->center). Is this supposed to happen as a result????? Thank you! Robertby Robert - Café LA

Hello All, thanks to everyone looking at this message. I shot a miniDV documentary in 4:3 format on a canon xl-1 (ntsc) with the intention of later laying a 16:9 mask over the image in FCP. I have managed to do this with the video filter->matte->widescreen. It works well until I move the image up or down using "Offset", at which point the image becomes less sharp. Hi Koz, wow you are right. Unfortunately I do have Quicktime version 7.0.4! So now I have no way to export MPEG2 out of FCP HD4.5????! Is there any solution?? ( I only saw a way to export MPEG4 but not MPEG2. I need MPEG2 to make a DVD, correct???) Thank you! Robertby Robert - Café LA

Hi Koz, thanks again for helping me out here!! Sorry but I can not find the MPEG2 export function you are mentioning. All I can find is File >Export >Using Quicktime conversion >MPEG4 and other formats but not mpeg2. (I need the MPEG2 to make a DVD in DVD Studio Pro3). How do I export the MPEG2 using FCP 4.5??? Hi Derek, thank you for your response!! I cannot activate Compressor from the Applications folder - I double click and then NOTHING happens. I also dragged the Compressor Icon to the dock.
