There are two mini plugs. A line level out and a headphone out. The only input is Optical. I aways run my mic trough a mixer and from the mixer into a line level input (DV deck, AJA i/O, ect.) I also have a niftly little USB mic that is good for scratch tracks. -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Autosave Question... - 18 years agoOn a similar note, I had an incident today with autosave. My preferences are set to save every 20 minutes. FCP crashed around 5:30 checked the autosave and the most current file was from 4:00. What happened? My drives aren't full. Projects are on internal drive, but not the system drive. Autosave vault is in another internal that is not the system drive. Project size is around 100MB. Any iby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: speed problem - 18 years agoHey Derek.. did you know you can copy and paste time code and a clip and have them both in the "clipboard" at the same time. So my workflow is... Click on the clip I want to change Apple C to copy the clip Click on the Timecode in the timeline (above track numbers) Apple C to copy the timecode click END to jump to the end of my sequence Apple V to paste Apple J to set the time changeby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Emergency HELP!!! Where's Audio Mixdown??? - 18 years agoSequence > Render Only > Audio Mixdown or (option apple R)by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: window burn in for QT movie - 18 years agoMike, As always, feel free to use any of my tips as a tip/trick of the week! -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: window burn in for QT movie - 18 years agoNick.. instead of cropping slug.. I use a text generator - with no text! Whola... a transparent layer for efx generators!by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: capture card for reverse telecine - 18 years agoI too can only talk from experience. FCP 5.0 set-up. I would say that maybe 3% of my reverse telecine's had errors. And to be honest, it was usually due to a bad TC from the ALE that was not on an A frame. I wouldn't be surprised if your troubles started from a bad ALE file from your telecine operator. As for the time. I didn't find it to be a hinderance. We did do a lot of our batch procby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: capture card for reverse telecine - 18 years agoUsing CT to "reverse telecine" takes NO TIME AT ALL. Each day we got our telecine's back from the lab, imported the ALE into CT, exported a batch list. Digitized the DVcam tapes, and batch reverse telecined the clips. Went into FCP and made subclips for each take. We imported the sound files from our ProTools guys, and hand synched each take. Put all the takes into sequences andby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Audio dropout when we output Quicktime file - 18 years agoMix down the audiio before you export. Sequence> Render Only> Mixdownby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Weird digitizing issues with Canon XLH1 - 18 years agoThis is exactly what happened to me when I tried to capture using the H1. We found out later that our footage was shot in the 24p mode. But I'm not sure if this is the same reason for this problem. I heard there is a setting on the camera for turning scrubbing off. Maybe you can check that. -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Markers into Subclips - 18 years agoIn the browser, expand the clip (click on the grey triangle next to the clip name). You should see the list of your markers. Now select them and drag them into a bin. There you go! As for a tape with movements on stills - this was probably done with a large and rather expensive motion control camera. That was the old-school way of doing pushes and movements on stills. Not sure who still doesby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Which Video Capture Card? - 18 years agoI have a Kona 2, and an AJA i/O and will be ordering a Kona 3 soon. I haven't had any problems or complaints, and I hear AJA's service is top notch - but like I said, I've never had to use it! Rock solid cards, great compatibility with different formats, and just an all around great upgrade to an FCP rig. But just as people have been hounding on the poor guy with the BetaSP genlock, buying aby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: BetaCam SP Deck Issue - 18 years agoIf you don't have a black burst generator, You can take a BNC cable and loop it from the the REF loop (right below the REF input) into the OPTION input. This works for Composite input, and I think should do the same for S-video. But, a blackburst generator is a good thing to have.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: widescreen bars look shaking - 18 years agoYeah, that filter creates some jitter. I usually create a new solid (matte) make the color black, then add the "matte shape" filter. Take the horizontal scale to 100% and adjust the vertical scale to taste. Some people also create a PSD with black bars in photoshop for the different aspect ratios.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: She has a nice set of 3D's - 18 years agoI bought Cinema 4D CE+ 6 from Maxon's website (http://www.maxon.net/) a while back. Since it was an older version (I think they are up to 9.5 now) I only paid $100 - the current version is over $1k. It is a pretty complex 3D application and suites my needs (I make boxes with simple image mapping and lighting - but I am trying to increase my 3D skills and I know Cinema 4D is a well known 3D appby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Roll Credits - Should be sooooo easy. - 18 years agoWow... what a cool trick.. I had no idea it did that? Where did you learn that? Are there other "codes" for other text generators?by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: OT: Olympics snowboarding effect - 18 years agoIt looks to me like they take the traditional skateboard, snowboard magazine effect and then when its done do a pan and scan on the image to give it the effect of the camera moving. So if I were to guess - they shoot the jump ( I am assuming with the highest pixel camera - perhaps a vipercam) with the camera locked off. Then freeze every couple of frames, roughly rotoscope out the rider. crossby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: HELP! I should have skiped this HDV job! - 18 years agoWell this would explain that when I did capture this with the Cannon camera a while back it played back at a strange speed in FCP. By slowing the footage down by 80% it almost goes back into synch - but obviously looks like crap! Is there anyway to play the footage back (from the cannon) and use the SDI out into the Kona 2? 1080i 24fps? or even 720p 24fps? -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA HELP! I should have skiped this HDV job! - 18 years agoSo I have footage that was shot on the Cannon H1. I went to rent an HDV deck, and the rental company said they only have a Sony Z! and after I told him that I just needed to digitize footage from a Cannon, he said it would still work - "HDV is HDV", he said. Well guess what, its not! Apparently the Z1 will only play will only play footage from the H1 if it is in 60i and of course myby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: rent wide angle for pd150 in LA? - 18 years agoSammy's, Byrns and Sawyer, Ametron.... any camera rental place should have one.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Pop up menu for Fonts won't appear - 18 years agoI believe I posted about this a couple of weeks back. I'll bet you have a Kona card. And my psychic powers are telling me that you have the Kona Preferences set so that the Kona acts like a desktop when FCP isn't running. Funny thing is... FCP puts the pulldown for your fonts on the Kona monitor... but forgets that the Kona is displaying the video output! I turned the Kona back to the defaultby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Visual effects? - 18 years agoI use Trapcode's Shine plug-in. It works in FCP and AE. That will give you the effect of beams of light coming out of your object. Then composite the dust otop from stock dust footage.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: put a speaker on top of my ntsc monitor--anyway to degauss? - 18 years agoI had a director walk past a monitor with a money clip in his pocket. Nice big green streak through the middle of the picture. The monitor got downgraded to an offline/digitizing room, and couple of weeks later, it was gone... at least it wasn't noticeable .. and again I wasn't doing any color correcting or anything fancy! Hope that helps keep the spirits up!by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: how to log once for a two-camera shoot? - 18 years agoI haven't done this in a while, but I think the work around was I captured tape one. Then Duplicate the clips. Make one set offline (don't delete!) now you have one set online one set offline. Change the offline's reel # and it wont change the online's reel. Change each clip name (or you have to click "yes" to the "already exists" warning) Pretty sure this works.. agaby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: miracle...? - 18 years agoThe same happens with my assistants logging station. Sometimes it has an i/o sometimes it doesn't. But it can output uncompressed sequences via my dsr-25. I think this is just one of the "realtime" previews. Just remember, you aren't seeing the uncompressed video, since it is going through the deck. Or at least, you cant "record it". But yeah.. FW is fast enough to sendby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: color code tracks? - 18 years agoYou do know you can label clips with colors right? Select the clips and go to >modify>label - or shift apple 1 through 6. This isn't labeling tracks like you stated, but I use this to keep track of dialog, sound effects, score, ect. I also try to keep my tracks ordered especially when I cut features. The first four tracks are dialog, the next eight for EFX/folley and the last four for muby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Canon XL2 - Focus Drift!! - 18 years agoWow.. I thought it was just me. I shot last week and everything looked fine in the viewfinder. I bring it back to the suite and its all kinda soft. I thought it was just the normal.. never send the editor to do a DP's job... or it was a sign I needed to get my eyes checked. I have always said I cannot get an XL camera to shoot as well as a PD-150 or VX100. Most people thought it was user errby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: battery back-up system - 18 years agoWe have an APC smart ups 2200 It keeps three G5's a raid and some other small things working for about 20 minutes. Long enough to save and shutdown properly. I take it you are in the Whilshire area that got nocked out this morning. We are too!by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: 4 tracks audio - 2 channels out - 18 years agoControl click (right click for you cool mighty mousers) on the space just to the left of the track number and right of the green disable button. The first item on the pull down is "audio output" Select the track you want to go to. Of course to make FCP not act like stereo left and right, but rather two mono channels, you must change your sequence settings audio output to "dual mby Rick Sebeck - Café LA |
