An outboard MIDI mixer...I use one and it is great for fine tuning a mix....there are a number of them ..and FCP 5 (and soundtrack pro) support them....run real time....click on record keyframes....let it play....mix as many channels as you have fingers..... Just like in the old analog days.... If you don't like the mix -- hit apple z aby Andy Field - FCP Feature Requests Re: "my book" westerndigital externaldrive - 15 years agoSecond and Third Derek and Joe's assessment - I see people buying them in the apple store and warn them off -- absolute piece of junk - spend the extra money - avoid the head and heart ache and go with real video tested drives -- Caldigit - G-Raids etc....well worth the moneyby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Optimal settings for Beta SP output - 15 years agoEven at that - it's not consistent - you can set tone properly - and it will still be too low or too hot from timeline playback - my method above has yielded the best results Best - Andyby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Optimal settings for Beta SP output - 15 years agoBeware you may set up tone on your timeline to -6db - and you can adjust the vu meters on your beta deck to match - and then find that you are still under or over modulated when you playback from time line -- suggest getting a good average level match from timeline to Beta deck audio first and then match your Tone settings on your timeline to reach 0 on the beta meter -- this happens to us oftenby Andy Field - Café LA FCS3 to earlier versions - 15 years agoThis seems like an obvious answer - but maybe there's a better way. Cutting on new FCS3 and have to hand project off to client who has older version -- Assuming the best (and only way) to give them the project is to save out as an XML version 4 file (that seemed to be the latest in the last version of FCP) so they can open and use the project file. the new FCS3 has an export option for Xby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Replacement mouse for FCP editing* - 15 years agoLove the Logitech Optical Mouse - two buttons and a scroll wheel -- can't go back to the regular old apple mouse after using this -- and the mighty mouse -- one of Apple's worst products everby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Wildly OT, transcription software - 15 years agoActually it works through sound booth in the adobe CS4 suite -- and it works well - sometimes-- have tried it to transcribe tapes - long chunks -- depending on who's speaking - it can work - really great - or really lousy -- and it's been 50/50 on some interviews - but when it works - it's amazing The best you can do for final cut work - is export the transcript and quickly reallign timecodeby Andy Field - Café LA Re: this looks so cool - 15 years agoIt's not only cool - but works 5 times as fast as Smoothcam -- even when you export just the bit of the clip you want and re-import it - very impressive - you can download a test run - full function for 15 days I think - if you do a lot of this - this is a huge time saver.by Andy Field - Café LA Re: Another free plugin! Alex4D Crop - 15 years agoAlex - this is incredibly useful! Thanksby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Can't capture HD video from Canon Vixia HV30 - 15 years agoI have a different model of the camera - HV10S I think --that creates Mts files (mpeg stream files) I injest through log and transfer and it works fine - not log and caputure - have you tried that -- or using MPEG streamclip?by Andy Field - Café LA Odd Dropped frames with Audio Mixer config only - 15 years agoThis is one of the oddest issues I've seen FCP 6.0.6 - runs fine - no dropped frames - regular DV sequence - Caldigit VR (and a G-Raid I've tried on both hard drives - it's doesn't seem to be the hard drive) on Macbook Pro 2.4ghz intel core 2 4gb ram - latest everything system and quicktime Ok - those are the specs -- No dropped frames when I'm running in STANDARD View timeline BUTby Andy Field - Café LA Re: FCS 3 may run on PPCs! - 15 years agoHere's the one reason folks who poo poo this overlook for trying this -- I'm betting 99 percent of the folks who want to do this - do it only with Final Cut Pro We have a perfectly good G-5 machine and the rest of our shop - Intel macs laptops for roadwarrior editing-- we upgrade all of those and then are stuck with a backward incompatible doorstop when we move projects back in house If weby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Pal to NTSC - 15 years agoGraeme's being modest - his converter plug in ROCKS -- we used it to go from PAL to NTSC and the other way around for a documentary in Zambia -- worked like a charm and - as he said - virtually no noticable pitch or speed change -- well worth the investment. Andy Field FieldVision Productionsby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Saving your entire project? - 15 years agoCaveat -- some files may not transfer - so open the new timeline on a new hard drive BEFORE you delete or clear the original drive 1 - soundtrack pro (sent) audio files sometimes don't tranfer (they may have a name but show up as RENDER clips missing - you need to drag those sometimes to the other drive and reconnect 2 - optical flow stabilization files - will disappear - you need to reapplby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Need Help with .MTS Conversion for FCP - 15 years agoSame here -- although I'm not sure Log and Transfer works if you don't have all the underlying files that go along with the .mts files - may be wrong about that. PS the HVS10 is an amazing camera for it's sizeby Andy Field - Café LA Re: WD Firewire Drive won't mount - 15 years agotry restarting the computer in safe mode (think you hold the shift key down) and see if it mounts also try using a utility (FREE) like ONYX to clean all files - sometimes that helps Might also want to try diskwarriorby Andy Field - Café LA |
