found a solution that I'd like to share in case someone's looking for an answer one day: "pro" option: Quicktime Pro and Flip4mac. Download F4Mac for $175 and once you open QT Pro you'll find an option to export wmv. Then you'll enter the joy of customizing with endless of options: VBR, CBR, constraint, one pass, two pass and millions of combinations AVID on a PC option. At Expoby xavpil - Café LA

I need to export a wmv file... I am trying to stay away from the $150 Flip4mac solution... VLC offers wmv1 and wmv2 with asf file names.... too strange to send to a client. MPEG Streamclip doesnt have the wmv option on my version... And Flv Crunch keeps saying my QT is "unsupporterd".... what's left?!?! Thxby xavpil - Café LA

I was on the same boat as you a year ago. Or maybe a little ahead since I was using the trackball. I had no luck with the game mice. Couldn't get them to work properly. Eventually I got a Wacom tablet...and I LOVE it!!!! My wrist doesn't hurt anymore and I am super fast The only downside is the size. It takes a lot of space and doesn't leave much room for the keyboard. Right now the tablet iby xavpil - Café LA

Multicam: playback issues - 10 years ago
I have a brand new 2013 iMac 21", 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8Gb 1600 MHz DDR3 I work with Apple Prores 4444, 1920x1080 files. My multiclips are only 2 clips but the playback in the time line and viewer is horrible... choppy and stops on occasion. Almost unusable. Very nice job!!! The only thing, and of course it's only me, I wouldn't use so much of the bimbo shots if any shot.... It is technically and artistically very well shot but it brings some cheesiness to the reel. Up to that point I felt I was watching commercial like material, cool documentary style... and then the bimbos killed it all. thx John Matrox is too expensive and so far I don't really see the difference between the Matrox and the external video card I listed above from Amazon ($40 or so) especially for my needs.. I ordered it. We shall see how it performs...by xavpil - Café LA

Hmm... first I don't have an Express34 slot on the mid-2009 mbp... second the matrox is way over my budget. I've done some research and found a split VGA so the 2nd and 3rd monitor share the same signal... Anyone tested it or saw it in action?by xavpil - Café LA

Hi all I am editing on a MBP mid-2009 (unibody), 2.66 mghz and 8Gb or Ram I have a second monitor already in my set up and would like to add a second monitor so my clients can watch the spots while comfortably sitting and not having to watch over my shoulder. I don't worry about color accuracy or broadcast safe specs. It can just be mirroying what I have on the other display. All I want tby xavpil - Café LA

$500 budget to get a macpro. CL and eBay have a lot to offer but it gets overwhelming: Too many combinations: 8core, Quad, Ram, processor speed.... What is the most important? number of cores, Ram, proc. speed, other?... I also don't want to get something that will keep me from updating to the latest IO. It just happened to my friend who bought a 2006 Macpro. He now seems to not be ableby xavpil - Café LA

I meant working in Hollywood where the big bucks are. NBC, ABC, ABC Family, Disney, CBS, FOX, FX are Avid based. Trailer Park and Ants Farm (biggest trailer houses): AVID Of course you'll find some pretty big names that are FCP but we're talking as a general rule.by xavpil - Café LA

To answer to the question asked in this thread, my answer is yes, learning Avid MC will allow you to make more money. MC is THE tool used 90% of the time in networks and studios. MC is also used to cut... everything from commercials to TV promos, movie trailers, reality shows, etc... FCP is not as versatile. Of course you can do all the above but as a general rule FCP is not used for "heby xavpil - Café LA

It will look and work great in a home-studio. I have a hard time to picture it in a pro environment due partly to the form factor. After Final Cut X, I personally thinks that Apple clearly indicates its choice to target indie filmmakers and small prod companies. Way more money to be made with this demography. I guess I'll start practicing Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V instead of Cmd-C / Cmd-V!by xavpil - Café LA - X

and I would add to the list, asking questions during the viewing like "whose kitchen was it?". Becasue it did happen on our short... Good indicator that we didn't emotionally connected the viewer and the show...by xavpil - Café LA
