That is because the AVID camp has been around for a long time and have come through change after change... Final Cut Pro is relatively new in the industry - even relative to Premier. Most of those other NLE softwares have come up very lately and to be very honest, anyone in the industry who has been around for any length of time is AVID - Premierby John Foley - Café LA Re: Pro Audio Monitors - 18 years agoYou probably need an audio interface to send the audio to your monitors. I have a Firewire connected MOTU 896HD conncted to my MAC and then to my Mackie HR824's. I can be done far less expensively but depending on the quality you want 16-24bit -- 44.1-48-96Khz - that determines the price of interfaces.by John Foley - Café LA Re: With regards to exporting for web - 18 years agoCompression Master is only for WM9 output. Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 can also do that with Flip4Mac plugin. If you are talking about WM9, then wrong forum. But QT compression for web in Squeeze is superior.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Capture to Motion JPEG A - 18 years agoI believe all DV camcorders are pushing 5:1 compressed video over Firewire, out of the camera. Doesn't matter if it gets on tape or not. Dv to Motion JPEG would be an upconvert and DV doesn't go up to anything else well.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Fixing sound in FCP? - 18 years agoThe new Soundtrack Pro should be able to take that humming out of the background to some degree of accuracy. Depends on how much difference there is between the actual spoken audio and the street noise. If you don't have that one, SoundSoap can help but STP does such a marvelous job of noise reduction, that it's price of $299 is woth it on one critical job.by John Foley - Café LA Re: QT convertion vs compressor - 18 years agoIt is said that Compressor is a wrapper for Quicktime. In that case Compressor is just a GUI interface for Quicktime.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Large media splitter? - 18 years agoTry Split and Concat - I know i works well on data files and I believe I have seen it work with media as well.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Apple-Intel? - 18 years agoYikes - What next ? We run Final Cut Pro on Windows???????by John Foley - Café LA Re: imac & Final cut studio . pl inform - 18 years agoIf it meets the Apple minimum requirements, then yes; it will work!by John Foley - Café LA Re: LaCie Big Disc Unmounting Problem - 18 years agoMy suggestion as I give everyone trying to use Firewire drives for "real " work is get off FW for capture and edit. So many people say " I never have any problems with Firewire" but it seems that the ones who post here do. I suppose if you are doing this on a PowerBook, it would be inconvenient to NOT use Firewire but many experiences dictate that Firewire is NOT a stable disby John Foley - Café LA Re: output to mpeg2 - 18 years ago" Go direct from fcp to DVDSP." That is still using Compressor in an uncontrolled fashion.by John Foley - Café LA Re: 2 camera drift - 18 years agoWhat you really need to do is recapture on a Sony deck. Either from the PD-150 or a real deck. All DV are not the same. Panasonic and Sony DV are different and cause problems.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Color Correction Order? - 18 years agoSteve Martin has an excellect DVD on Color Correction training. I believe it can be ordered from the LAFCPUG store. It goes into detail about the terminology, setting up an NTSC production monitor for proper color and the techniques for primary and secondary color correction. His web site is www.rippletraining.com Philip Hodgets also has very helpful tutorials and self helps on Color Correctioby John Foley - Café LA Re: R U as sick and tired of this as I am? - 18 years ago""but i have never ever worked with a program that has as many bugs and other issues as FCP"" I am wondering what BUGS and OTHER ISSUES you are referring to? There are things about any software program that we might not like, but bugs are typically things that don't work the same every time. Perhaps the differences in the way Avid works is confusing? Many people coming fromby John Foley - Café LA Re: R U as sick of this Firewire drivle as I am? - 18 years agoPeople-people! Save yourself some major grief and stop trying to capture to Firewire drives. Get a Life! Use real internal or external RAID (SCSI-SATA) for capture. I don't care how many people feign - It works for me! - It still is problematic and to blame Apple for this is pure hogwash. If you want a "real" professional editing system - then stop trying to go on the cheapie by usiby John Foley - Café LA Re: Used video ntsc monitor ? - 18 years agoTake a look at www.mandy.com. I heard about this only yesterday. Interesting place for all sorts of videoesq information.by John Foley - Café LA Re: 10.4.1 is out - 18 years agoSo, do you really know something about this? Johnby John Foley - Café LA Re: migrating to fcp from media composer - 18 years agoI don't think AD does Avid-> FCP does it? I thought it is only FCP -> Avid Use an EDL and lots of cleanup work. Sounds like you have been talking to a bunch of Avid users who don't care to know what FCP is! Trim Modes go bye-bye in FCP! Sure media management is assumed to be easier in Avid - but in reality the Mac OS makes media management easier than a PC. The Timeline is prettier andby John Foley - Café LA Re: Playback on TV - 18 years agoCanon's DV and Sony's DV are not exactly the same. Blame it on the Me First mentality of those companies!by John Foley - Café LA Re: Imac 20 - 18 years agoDon, Probably OK! for DV only use but it is not expandable like a Tower MAC and can only use Firewire capture drives which are problematic. Ain't sayin' it can't be done; only Should it be done?by John Foley - Café LA Hey PfA - What Happened? - 18 years agoYou posted Ladies and Gentlemen - Start Your Engines! But it seemingly has gone - NOWHERE??by John Foley - Café LA Re: Audio quality with simplicity - 18 years ago""The only place left to put the mic is to shove it up the actor's......shirt."" Shirt - UM, yes - SHIRT!by John Foley - Café LA Re: UPGRADING THE XSERVE RAID - 18 years agoYes, I know what is the rule of posting etiguette, but WHO made the rule up that we all are supposed to know and follow religiously?by John Foley - Café LA Re: Audio quality with simplicity - 18 years agoI always try to get a one channel feed off the audio board (if there is one) If not, there has to be one main source for audio for the entire picture if you want it to be simple. That is not to say that you can't add other audio but timing the audio tracks gets exponentially harder with every stereo pair you add to the mix.by John Foley - Café LA Re: UPGRADING THE XSERVE RAID - 18 years agoI don't think you can just replace one commodity drive with one of the trays shipped in an XServe RAID. Apple gets a premium price for their drives in an XServe product. I will jump on my RANT box too. What difference does it make if someone posts in ALL CAPS? Who makes up these inane rules about internet etiquette? And while I am at it -- Who made up the rules about whether men should put theby John Foley - Café LA re: How to get around discrepancy in titles on computer and in external video - 18 years agoOK! So Apple gives you a stellar titling application and you don't like it? Before LiveType it was Photoshop or maybe Boris Grafitti (which ain't cheap) What is it you are trying to do by your self? What is the "editing mindset"? LiveType is a wonderful titling tool for titles in the traditional sense of a still or title moving in a straight line.by John Foley - Café LA FC Studio shipping on or before May 15? - 18 years agoJust a guess siince the Apple seminars are announcing local tours after May 15.by John Foley - Café LA Re: RENDERING - 18 years agoPutting an FCP computer asleep with FCP open has caused no end of problems. I have heard this time and again. Best never to sleep on your video computer. My best guess is that FCP looses it "brain's" when put to sleep.by John Foley - Café LA Re: Steve and Jill Martin welcome Baby #4 - 18 years agoWhat great photos of the event. Wonder if he got any video??? :-)by John Foley - Café LA Re: Graphics Card Question - 18 years agoIt would appear that Apple is heading for GPU power even more than CPU power, so I would suggest that you get the biggest baddest video card your machine can swallow. If not for today, certainly for tomorrow. And - OH Yes, Motion 2.by John Foley - Café LA |
