Both seem great, but is one better quality than the other? I will be conerting a standard video project to HD, so I need the best quality possible. Thanks. MacPro Intel FCP 6.5 QT 7 Proby Delphinus - Café LA Re: "Reduce Noise" problem - 13 years agoThe only filters I bought for FCP were Joe's Filters, and here is his response from my inquiry: Reduce Noise isn't one of mine ("Joe?s Noise Reducer" is). Is it possible the plugin was accidentally migrated from your old system to the new one? My plugins won't matter since they're written in FXScript and "compiled" inside Final Cut, but Apple's plugins are specific to theby Delphinus - Café LA Re: "Reduce Noise" problem - 13 years agoI can't for the life of me remember purchasing a secondary noise reduction filter, and when I go back to my G5 and open the project (on the original harddrive) I see no 3rd party filters listed anywhere. Other than going back to the G5 to finish this project (which I would rather not do), can you think of any way to identify the filter so I can either remove it or to purchase an upgrade to work oby Delphinus - Café LA "Reduce Noise" problem - 13 years agoI just converted my system from a G5 to a MacPro, transferring all data from the old drives to the new ones (formatted for Intel), (three 2 TB drives). I had to spend some time re-attaching media in a lengthy film but it seemed to work out OK. However, now that I need to render all the re-attached video, when I try to activate RENDER I get a box that says "Unable to load effect 'Reduce Noisby Delphinus - Café LA File transfer question - 13 years agoHi all: I transfered all data, including video and render files, from 1 TB drives to 2 TB drives (drive to drive). When I opened FCP, literally 3/4 of my clips lost their connection. In an 82 minute film, this would take me a day to reconnect. So, I put everything back the way it was. Is there a way to transfer this data (drive to drive) without loosing connection? Thanks. FCP 6.5 10.6.6by Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoBen: Great suggestion. Your comments have pushed me to get an Intel machine. One question. Is the bus speed relevant for FCP editing and functions? There are some excellent units available with 1.33 bus speed, but that doesn't seem very fast. Even my office iMac has a 667 bus speed. Is that important? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoHi gang: First of all, thank you for all the great help in the past. Incredibly helpful. I am trying to create a Quicktime movie from an 83-minute project (which I nested), using the ProRes 422 codec, SD 640x480, and Final Cut Pro 6.5 continually crashes about 1/5 the way into the conversion. I have dumped the FCP plist, rebuilt all directories with Disk Warrior, and zapped the p-ram, but FCPby Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoThis is certainly my fault, guys. As I approach the conclusion of this project I was getting Strong requests (demands?) from the foundations that supported it (we are non-profit) to "show us what you got". I originally wanted to burn DVDs for them but Toast Titanium would not burn the disks. Just as I found the problem, it was suggested I just put it into my Vimeo account under a privatby Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoGo to www.earthviewsproductions.com to see if I am a "spammer" or not. I am an honest film producer who gets stuck in the muck and myre of editing now and then and needs help getting out. You guys have been incredibly helpful, even if my questions and inquiries seen innane at times. Frankly, many FCP editors I know of have similar problems with audio, video, FCP, compression, etc.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoMy project is a theatrical documentary film that is being edited in 4:3 SD. Much of the material was shot in this format, other material was shot in HD, HDV, Hi8, and miniDV. Such is the way of historical films. When I received the HDV PAL material, I imported it into Pavtube HD video converter and converted it to NTSC (beautiful results). Then, I import the NTSC files into FCP and increase the sby Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoSorry gang, I must have respnded to the wrong email. The audio problem was an earlier issue that you all helped greatly with. However, yesterday's request was regarding a problem with using Compressor, and LAFCPUG gave me a link to a Youtube video tutorial on using the program. Just so you know, I had some HD PAL files come in from Isreal and I used Pavtube HD Video Converter to convert them to Nby Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoTo all: I followed the video tutorial to the letter in attempting to compress the film down to a smaller size. The only thing I got out of the exercise was an aiff. file and a Dolby file; the movie itself was nowhere to be found. So, rather than dick around with Compressor, I tried a friend's program called Pavtube HD Video Converter, and the results blew me away. It reduced my 37 GB film dowby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Compression - 13 years agoAndrew: Here's what I have done. From FCP I created a QT movie of the 83-minute project. I opened Compressor, hit Add File to bring in the movie, then went to "Settings, Best Quality 90 minutes 4:3". I dragged MPEG-2 and AIFF to the top window, went to Target and selected an external drive. When I highlighted both, the viewer on the right only showed bars and tone. When I highlighteby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Compression - 13 years agoOne thing, however. I do have a document "Compressor User Manual: Using Final Cut Pro with Compressor" which indicates that after I have saved my FCP project I would choose FILE, SEND TO, then COMPRESSOR. However, there is no COMPRESSOR option in the drop-down FILE, SEND TO. Hence, I opened up Compressor, loaded in the QT movie, choose the MPEG-2 and AIFF files, chose a target, then hitby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Compression - 13 years agoNo problem. I'll do that. Thanks. Seems like I had everything set up but just needed to find a way to activate the program, and "Submit" didn't do it. I'll read through the instructions. THanks, guys.by Delphinus - Café LA Compression - 13 years agoI got a response from a question to LAFCPUG that I use Compressor to compress my 83 minute movie. As advised, I went to the Best Quality 90 minute 4:3 setting and dragged the MPEG-2 file and the AIFF file to the horizontal bar, then targeting an external drive. My question is, how do I activate the program to start the compression? Do I just hit the play arrow in the large screen (which sby Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP Filters - 13 years agoWell, that was easy. Audio is a science unto itself. Thanks. Worked great!by Delphinus - Café LA FCP Filters - 13 years agoI find FCP's audio filters incredibly complicated and difficult (at best) to understand. I have an interview that sounds very tinny and needs some serious bass to round it out. You would think there would be something called "bass" in one of the filters. Any idea which filters will allow me to simply add bass to an audio interview bite? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Best codec for DVD burn - 13 years agoI tried that. Toast gave a message that I needed three disks to do the burn, in that the 81 minute film coming out of FCP is 17.39 GB. As a DVD (according to the label) can only hold 4.7 GB, I have to compress it. Is there no way to compress a 17.39 GB clip to burn on a single disk using Toast? I am not yet up to speed on DVD Studio Pro; it would take me a while.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Best codec for DVD burn - 13 years agoI highlighted both MPEG-2 and Dolby 2.0. I want to burn a simple DVD using Toast Titanium (not DVD Studio Pro) but when I drag the file into Toast I get a message that there is no audio. If Compressor created two files (audio and video), I cannot find the audio to import into Toast. Any suggestions?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Best codec for DVD burn - 13 years agoThanks. I was unaware that I had more than one choice in the settings. All seems fine now in Compression. One question, however. By going through Compressor, shouldn't I end up with a viable, playable clip that I can burn to a DVD, as opposed to double-clicking on it and having it launch and go through MPEG Streamclip?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Best codec for DVD burn - 13 years agoTom: Here's the problem, in detail. My original file is 17.39 GB. I opened Compressor and imported the file into the settings you indicated (DVD Best Quality, MPEG-2, Pass 4:3) and launched the program. What I ended up with was a file on my harddrive that read 6.2Mbps 2-pass 4:3 m2V, and the icon was gray. When I double-clicked on it, it launched MPEG Streamclip. All of this is well and goodby Delphinus - Café LA Best codec for DVD burn - 13 years agoI have an 83 minute film that I want to burn to a DVD. When outputting from FCP, what is the best codec to use for maintaining quality in 640x480 and fitting it onto a 4.7GB DVD?by Delphinus - Café LA Audio Files - 13 years agoI have a whole set of music files that are currently .wav. What can I convert them to so I can bring them into FCP without having to render in my timeline?by Delphinus - Café LA Time Code on a FCP project - 13 years agoI want to add a visible time code to a project. I have nested it, but I cannot find the CGM Timecode/Reel filter in my FCP 6.0. Does it not exist in this version? Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Converting .mxf files - 13 years agoI misunderstood you. Your first message of "this excellent program ..." I thought refered to FCP. The program you actually refered to cost $495 and I only want to convert 4 small, 20-second clips. Hardly worth $495. Is there no other way to do this?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Converting .mxf files - 13 years agoAndy: I imported the .mxf files onto my drive then into a Final Cut Pro folder. Yet, when I try to access them, I get a "File Error: Unknown File" message.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Converting .mxf files - 13 years agoThanks. I did not know that. Learn something new every day. Grateful.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Converting .mxf files - 13 years agoThese .mxf files were sent from Isreal on a harddrive as single clips.
