The problem was they put the new card back in slot 2.by Benjamin Meyer - Café LA Re: Sonnet Tempo incompatible with Mac Pro firmware update? - 16 years agoWell! File this one under "problem solved". After waiting around most of a week for Melrose Mac to order a brand new card and install it, it turns out that the problem is actually this: Sonnet cards must be installed in Slot 3 or 4. They cannot be installed in Slot 2. So, the original card that they replaced was undoubtedly in fine working order. They just didn't know what tby Benjamin Meyer - Café LA Sonnet Tempo incompatible with Mac Pro firmware update? - 16 years agoHello, I recently ran the latest Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update (version 1.3) on my January 2008 Mac Pro. Following that update, my eSATA RAID stopped mounting. I checked my System Profiler, to find that the computer did not even acknowledge the presence of my Sonnet Tempo E2P card, anymore. It had previously shown up under PCI Cards, as it should. I downloaded the drivers from the Sonnetby Benjamin Meyer - Café LA Re: Sonnet ExpressSAS RAID Problem - 16 years agoThat's funny. Did the problem happen after running the latest Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update (version 1.3)? Because, I'm about to post a thread in which I complain that my Sonnet Tempo SATA E2P card ceased to work as soon as I ran the Firmware update.by Benjamin Meyer - Café LA RAM for 2008 macs - 16 years agoHi, all I am going to buy one of the new Mac Pro towers. I think I'm going to go with the 3.0 GHz model. It's probably not much faster than the 2.8 GHz, but at least when the next round of Mac Pros comes out, I will go from being the mid-range to the bottom-range, instead of the bottom-range to the basement. It's a self-esteem thing. My question, however, regards RAM. I was once told, iby Benjamin Meyer - Café LA Re: Suggested Video Cards - 16 years agoThe NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL is actually faster than the X800 XT on Motion according to this benchmark test: I went with the 6800, and it has been pretty darned great. I do a lot of replicator-intensive Motion graphics, and I've been really happy with the card.by Benjamin Meyer - Café LA replicator duplicate shift - 16 years agoHi, Here's a weird problem: I'm using transitional replicators to go from one image to the next. I'm using Weave Out 01. I swap a star into the cell controls as my object source. I create an image mask on the object that I am transitioning out. I adjust the replicator so that I've got a nice replicated star wipe. All good. Now, I want to make each star glow. So, I duplicate my Weaby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Bad Looking Chroma Key - 16 years agoTry this: Duplicate your foreground image. On the lower one, place Primatte RT. On the upper one, place your chroma key. The lower one will become a matte, which will help your chroma key to smoothly delineate the green. Play with the controls on Primatte along with the ones on your chroma key, until you have a good composite. Also, dvGarage is a great piece of software for keying. Worby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: motion creating sequences - 16 years agoHuh. I don't remember it doing that. It is helpful, but it adds to your session's file size. Which is usually not a concern. But, there's so much Motion in what I'm doing right now that it adds a ton of MBs.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion motion creating sequences - 16 years agoHey, Since updating Motion, I've noticed that any time I send a clip to Motion, a new sequence and motion clip show up in my browser. This is making my project cluttered. Is there a way to prevent this? Thanks!by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion blur on green screen - 16 years agoHi, First of all, make sure you are watching your key on an NTSC monitor. Often, green interlaced lines show up on the computer monitor that don't show up on the NTSC monitor, and won't be in your final project. Second of all, in similar situations I've found it handy to duplicate the foreground layer, take the key off the lower layer and replace it with Primatte. It creates a matte fromby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion FEATURE REQUESTS: Post them HERE - 16 years agoThese are templates that I create. I cut shows for E!, and I use templates to drop the comedians into those little bubbles from which they comment on the video clips. I also use them to create multiwipe transitions, and other effects that Avid does easily, but which are more cumbersome in FCP. Used in this way, templates are a powerful way to compensate for all of the things Avid does bettby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion FEATURE REQUESTS: Post them HERE - 16 years agoMy Motion templates have all been out of synch and weirdly off center since I updated. I've gone so far as to have the rental company bring me a new machine with a new install, and I still have the same problem. My templates worked great up until the update. I've rebuilt my templates since the new update, and they are still out of synch by random numbers of frames. The new update busted sby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion FEATURE REQUESTS: Post them HERE - 16 years agoPLEASE FIX MOTION TEMPLATING. IT IS TOTALLY F*CKED AFTER THE 3.02 UPDATE!!!by Benjamin Meyer - Motion templates out of sync - 16 years agoHi, Ever since I updated to 6.02, I've been having synch problems in my templates. When I drop actors into their templates (single drop zone, just an actor inside a bubble talking) they are out of synch. In the template I am building now, there is a 7 frame discrepancy. Is this a known problem with the update? Is there a way to build an offset into the template? Thanks!by Benjamin Meyer - Motion update and master templates - 16 years agoAfter updating, none of my motion templates work right. They are doing all kinds of crazy things. They shift my media all over the place. Also, when I export an uncompressed Quicktime, the content of the templates actually changes during the export. When I am done, the footage in the template jumps around, even though there are no cuts in it. I give this update a thumbs down and a menacby Benjamin Meyer - Café LA software update problems - 16 years agoAfter upgrading with the new software updates, all of my Motion templates have been corrupted. They don't work in new sequences. And, when I open up old sequences, the render files have gone all weird. Like, the footage jumps around within the template.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion FEATURE REQUESTS: Post them HERE - 16 years agoFor TEMPLATES: Please make them able to include audio files. Once they are being used in FCP, please make their drop zones accept freeze frames, other motion files (templated shots within templates), filtered shots, color corrected shots, etc.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: round trip back to FCP wierdness - 16 years agoTry exporting your graphics out of Motion as a lossless quicktime with alpha, and then bring the exported file into FCP.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: color correction/filters and Motion templates - 16 years agoARGH! Apple, if anybody is listening, this would be a fantastic element to improve for the next release.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion color correction/filters and Motion templates - 16 years agoOkay, here's a question that I know the obvious answer to, but I thought I'd spit it out there, see if there's a better solution. So, now I've created a show with a lot of Motion templates, which have made my work much easier. But, I have to color correct the thing. In templates that use only one drop zone, it's easy to just color correct the rendered clip. But, in templates that have moreby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: motion template crashes system? - 16 years agoJust to conclude this thread, before I start my next one, the answer seems to have been to make the groups in my Motion templates Fixed Resolution. After I did that, my PM editor reported many fewer crashes.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: motion template crashes system? - 16 years agoNope. We're on 10.4.10.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion motion template crashes system? - 16 years agoHello, I seem to be the only person with template questions. I've just got a complaint in from my PM editor that he has been crashing like crazy when he renders the Motion templates I've designed. I've been using elements designed in Smoke for lower thirds and locator bugs and also for transitions (which works great, by the way, Mark Spenser). I haven't had any trouble rendering them. Buby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Motion template audio? - 16 years agoHi, Another template question. At the end of creating a template in Motion, the last thing the little window says is "mixing audio." But, when I open the template in FCP, I don't get any audio tracks. Is it possible to have audio as part of a template? Or, is that just for preview purposes? Thanks!by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Re: Motion 3 and DvMatte Blast/Pro - 16 years agoSince, nobody answered, I'll go ahead. Yes, it works fine.by Benjamin Meyer - Motion Motion template frame size - 16 years agoHi, I am using motion templates to create graphics overlays in FCP. In many cases, I want the graphics to seamlessly integrate with continuous footage. In other words, I'm inserting a cut into a clip in my sequence at, say, a second before the clip ends. I then take the last second of the clip, drop it into the template, and lay the template back into my sequence. I am finding that whereby Benjamin Meyer - Motion Motion 3 and DvMatte Blast/Pro - 16 years agoHas anybody used dvMatte Blast with Motion 3? I am reading on the dvGarage forum that a few people have had trouble with it, but that a new installer partially fixed the problem. Can somebody confirm for me that it is, in fact, working? Please?by Benjamin Meyer - Motion dvmatte blast on FCS 2? - 16 years agoHi, I need to order green screen software. On the dvGarage forum, a couple of people have complained that dvMatte Blast and Pro are not working with Motion 3. Has anybody used this software in FCS 2, and can they verify that it does work, please? Thank you!by Benjamin Meyer - Café LA |
