Those are the techniques used to get that nice shallow depth of field. Not only for video, but, for still photography as well. What was NOT mentioned was to use as low a lighting as possible if indoors, so that you can get the iris opened up all the way. If you don't have a lower wattage bulb, try using screening (yep, the kindby camshaft - Café LA Re: Using anamorphic frames in DVD SP - 16 years agoJohn, Did you ever get an answer to this post? I'm trying to get DV 16x9 anamorphic to DVD, and the only options are 4x3, or 16x9 letterbox.by camshaft - DVD Studio Pro Re: Bruce the Wonder Yak - 16 years agoHey, you know what???? I didn't want to know how to find him ANYWAY!!!! So, phhhhhhht!....................................... but, seriously, I'll give you my lunch money if you tell me.............. I swear I won't tell ANYONE!!!!!!by camshaft - Café LA Re: anamorphic problems - 16 years agoHey, Mark, Thanks......I just now found that on a discussion over at Apple. That's a weird little caveat there. FCP doesn't recognize the file as anamorphic automatically. Now if I could figure out how a still at 720x534 looks "correct" in a 720x480 anamorphic project, but, if it looks fine, I'm not messin with it!by camshaft - Motion anamorphic problems - 16 years agoI have a 16x9 project in FCP with "squeezed" DV footage, timeline settings at DV preset 720x480 with anamorphic checkbox checked. All good here. In Motion, settings are preset NTSC-DV, 720x480. Pixel Aspect Ratio, NTSC DI/DV Anamorphic. Am using stills in the Motion project that have been converted in PhotoShop from 720x534 to 720x480. The problem: importing into FCP, the Moby camshaft - Motion Re: sound transitions - 16 years agoSTP has lots of sfx. Go to the "Search" tab >pull down menu for "Sound Effects" and there will be a list of stuff. You can also use the search window to type in specific words: whoosh, clang, thud, etc.by camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: Tarting up VHS footage... - 16 years agoOne time I had some footage that was called "un-airable", so it couldn't be used in the story. Flash forward 14 years or so, and that same company will regularly pay tens of thousands for paparazzi video that looks like it came out of a cell phone. How things change. Imagine how that footage is going to look in HD, just scrumptuous!by camshaft - Café LA Re: Forced to do a wedding. does anyone have some pepto bismal? - 16 years agoHow about running out of batteries halfway through the reception? The video went to black and all we had was audio at that point for about 2 minutes. It was one of those "friend of a friend" things. But, we are divorced now, so , who cares? My 2 cents? Make sure the camera people are on the same page for stopping and starting, in fact, don't stop, just keep rolling, shoot it all,by camshaft - Café LA Re: Tarting up VHS footage... - 16 years agoIt is so ironic these days that many times we are told to make crappy video (old VHS, 8mm, cheap satellite feeds, dub of dubs) look better, and take nicely shot video and "effect" it so it looks like old TV. To answer the question, why not go with the flow, and effect the VHS video, make a feature of the bad quality. Every so often, mix in some corrected footage. Since it's a rockby camshaft - Café LA Re: DV capture resolution question - 16 years ago<<Picture your wife's skirt in black and white.....we hand you cans of spray paint>> What a great analogy, Koz, pretty much answers THAT question. Thanks!by camshaft - Café LA Re: DV capture resolution question - 16 years ago<<have you tried CC'ing the DV shot in a DV timeline?>> Oh, yes, that's fine, but with any more complex correcting (ie:selective color), I found that the image gets "blotchy" (for want of a better word) in places, so I want to get up to a 4:4:2 color space and see how that works. Hey, it's only 10 minutes of my son at graduation, so it's not a big deal. Basically, I'mby camshaft - Café LA Re: DV capture resolution question - 16 years agosidebar question: does FCP do a better job of upconverting than compressor? I'm just in the process of my son's middle school graduation. About 10 minutes worth of DV. Lighting in the chapel was through a huge stain glass window, and the predominate color was BLUE, of all colors. So, need to do some good CC. I'm running a test clip through compressor up to DV Pro 50 to get to the 4:2:2 sby camshaft - Café LA Re: Select tool - 16 years agoIf you highlight all the clips, you can then drag the whole mess to wherever you want. Having snapping on may help to butt up to another clip.by camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: DV capture resolution question - 16 years agoJohn, The improved color space would make for better color correcting also, yes?by camshaft - Café LA Happy Father's Day! - 16 years agoNo problems or questions today.....just want to wish a Happy Father's Day to all dads and grand-dads. May all your FCP wishes come true!by camshaft - Café LA Re: Bruce the Wonder Yak - 16 years agoIs Bruce a good thing or bad? Am I not pounding the system hard enough for him to appear? Anyone have a screenshot?by camshaft - Café LA Re: Need Help to meet Deadline Noon Tuesday - 16 years agoI agree with Craig. I've been using DiscLabel for a few years now. You can work within the application, or easily import media.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Anyone using MXO here ? - 16 years ago<<format agnostic>> I love that. So, Shane, you are saying that the MXO believes in the existence of HDV, but doesn't want to call it High Def???? sorry, just had to chime in.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Missing Clips - 16 years agoI have had clips vanish. The browser showed them as off-line, but they were gone from my media drive that was 10% full. At the time I was using AJA Kona System Test (haven't followed that up) Not a big deal to recapture since I had the tapes, but, it just shows the importance of backing up media onto another media drive. The clip sent to STP audio file should show up in the timeline and browser as "clip name.sent". When you did the first send, did you save it to your HD? Have a duplicate sequence open that you went back to and couldn't find the sent clip so you then re-edited? It may have been a work flow thing, or just a bug. It sounds liby camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: audio order of operations - 16 years agoI generally do a rough mix while I'm working, ie: getting levels of audio with vo's, interviews, natural sound, music to a fair balance. Generally, any sound sweetening is left to the very end when the project timing is locked. It took a good tutorial (and a few family video projects!) to get me familiar with STP, it can be a pretty overwhelming application. Since you have a fairly long viby camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: Can't see video in an Avid Meridien Clip with codecs installed. - 16 years agoGood luck on that one! I have followed all the posts on this topic, and working with Avid media doesn't seem to be possible. Avid is very proprietary. For a couple of clips, I have converted to QuickTime files and transferred that way. Others here will chime in with more knowledgeable explanations. I have read about installing Avid codecs in QT, but I don't recall the succes rate. Output of computer does NOT give true colors, thus the need for some kind of capture device. You've probably said the same thing in a thousand posts, Shane, but I just wasn't getting my brain wrapped around it. Plus, the MXO having a blue check? Nice. I didn't notice that item on the website. Thanks vby camshaft - Café LA color correcting on LCD monitor - 16 years agoAm going through a list of things to upgrade current set-up to a more "middle-end" of things. ie: new video card (Radeon x800, so Motion doesn't bog down so much), SATA drives (SVR duos look sweet), more ram (sooo much cheaper now!). I haven't dealt with needing decks (except for DV, old 8mm, VHS, the usual suspects) because I digitize from Beta tapes to firewire drives somewhere eby camshaft - Café LA Re: Audio 4 a scene STP - 16 years agowell, the only workaround to manually processing each clip is to take the one file you want to remove the hum from (in FCP browser) and send it to STP audio file projects. FCP will make a copy of the file in the browser with "sent" added that will be the file with your processing. It has the identical time code. Good luckby camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: Audio 4 a scene STP - 16 years agoIn multi-track, control-click the clip to "open in editor" which will open in waveform, along with the i/o points. From there you can do whatever processes needed. <<There is a couple we shot having a conversation in a room, we shot his angle then her angle. I think the logic is/was to do work on the file before starting to edit. But, at least the entire audio file would be fixed. Since you are already in multi-track, I would try what John posted. Copying/pasting attributes. I haven't done that, however, it would make sense that once you have theby camshaft - Soundtrack Pro Re: Audio 4 a scene STP - 16 years agoIf it is all the same clip in FCP, instead of sending to> multi-track project which will open each edit as an individual clip, try opening from FCP as audio file.
