Don't mean to hijack this thread, but it seems like a proper place to ask since you're referring to media management: I've read that by default, X will import your media into the 'Movies' folder on your boot drive. Can this behavior be changed, with anything like the old Scratch Disk settings box? I can't believe Apple wouldn't give us a way to utilize our RAIDs and external drives for media..by John K - Café LA - X

If your export at "Current Settings" doesn't look good, I would recommend duplicating your sequence and set the sequence compression to ProRes instead of HDV; then export that at current settings. HTH, JVKby John K - Café LA

Yeah, I think backwards compatibility with older FCP project files is one of the things missing from the new version, along with things like multicam. Start making a list! It sounds like they've rolled a lot of the features of Color and Soundtrack Pro into the Final Cut, but does anyone know if those apps (plus DVD Studio Pro) are officially discontinued?by John K - Café LA - X

Panic Transmit for FTP -- save your logins as Droplets that Compressor can use to automatically upload jobs. I think Thunderbolt is going to be a slow rollout, both in available devices as well as adapters for current devices. So why wait? You'll have the only remaining express card slot in the entire Mac line with the 17" MBP so use it! And BTW, there re cheaper esata adapters than the Sonnet if you're worried about saving the $$. Really happy to see that they've added a new high-speed port to the whole line, been holding on to my 2008 15" because of the ExpressCard slot. Once Thunderbolt adapters hit the streets I'll feel good about upgrading to a machine that can hook up to anything I throw at it (and still fit on a seatback tray on a plane). JVKby John K - Café LA

I have this feeling that the Express Card adapter option for P2 is dead, given the lack of support or new drivers for the current solutions. Panasonic did release a new reader that's a USB model; not cheap but it's probably the most reliable solution at it's price point ($350)by John K - Café LA

Trigger multiple Applescripts (uploads) in same batch? - 13 years ago
I like to add FTP destinations to my Compressor outputs for 1-click compress+upload (aka leave the office sooner). I use the Transmit FTP app, and save the destinations as droplets which Compressor interprets as Applescripts, which I can then attach to a job using the "Execute Applescript..." command. I've always had the problem though that only the first file in a batch will upload.by John K - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion

5.1 surround mix plays back lower than stereo - 14 years ago
Hey all, I'm authoring a DVD for my friend's short film (45 mins.) and his sound designer gave me a stereo file (two AIFFs) and a surround mix (6 AIFFs). I synced them up in FCP with the final video and exported the audio to Compressor and used presets to make ac3 files. The 5.1 mix is apparently playing back somewhat lower in volume than the stereo mix, even lower than what the filmmakers heaby John K - DVD Studio Pro

Has anyone used this yet? I'm skeptical about the claims of "transcoding losses" affecting the quality of the imported footage; it's already been shot at 4:2:0 and squeezed into H.264, so how much better can it get if it's edited 'natively?' FWIW, I consider the Log & Transfer time from H.264 to ProRes as just another necessary stage of post with these cameras, no different thanby John K - Café LA

UPDATE: I deleted the 'problem' track then recreated it, moving it to the bottom of the Tracks list. The 'Track 1' that's just a slug with an end jump is at the top position. I did a new Build and deleted the previous build. It still defaults to the same track when resuming, nothing has changed!! This is really quirky behavior; could my project file be corrupted? Hi Hal, I tried that workaround -- added a new "track 1" to the top of the list in the Outline pane and set it to end jump to the Main menu. But that same previous track keeps playing. I'm wondering if I need to dump the whole BUILD folder and start fresh, maybe delete the track that keeps playing and re-create it for good measure? JKby John K - DVD Studio Pro

I was doing QC on my reel tonight, playing it back on the PS3 to check my work. My reel is pretty deep, with several menus and submenus, with up to four tracks per menu. I noticed the following issues: 1. On two of my menus, the disc just stops after the tracks play. I think I must have the End Jumps set wrong somehow on these tracks.
