Re: Offline and Playing fine fcp 4,5 & 6 - 13 years agoso i am just seeing fcp play the render files. which is why it wont load into the viewer or export. I don't need the project but It has always baffled me when i saw it. THANKSby J.Corbett - Café LA Offline and Playing fine fcp 4,5 & 6 - 13 years agoI have seen in the last 4 versions of FCP that sometimes on old projects the media in the TL reads as offline but it still plays and scrubs as usual. When you are UPGRADING, I would NEVER recommend getting a "used machine". You want a BRAND NEW MACHINE to have the full 3 Years of Applecare to cover you with no-worries support. It is THE BEST. If you buy a used/refurbished machine as i did due to my 4k-ish budget, which is not much more than what this poster has suggested as his budget. In fact, i have heard the unit responsible for making the filters and motion graphics programs run smoothly referred to as GFX card, video card, and graphics card.by J.Corbett - Café LA Not good enough for gaming but good for editing?? GFX Cards - 13 years agoi have an old x1900. and i am looking to do a massive jump to a 1g nvidia or ati. I have always tried to keep up with the hot stuff but something came over me today as i took note of people saying that some cards were good for editing but not for gaming. "hmmmm", said I. If say the x1900 was good for editing and GFX but not " GOOD ENOUGH" for gaming, does that mean thatby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Mac Upgrade time--but to what? - 13 years agoIF portability is not a important. I might look into a used macpro quad 2.6+. You would then have PLENTY of head room to expand into any application. The would be far faster than an imac. Plus there are plenty of port on them and you get 2 dvd burners in most cases. I have a had no real issues with my use macpro.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Help!! Need Color Correction Advice - 13 years agoB-Man if you can find FCS2 and use color v1. FCP does CC but it is quite limited in its CC attributes. You can do it with 5.1 but you are gonna spend a lot of time on it and it still will not be quite there. Especial on luma/white balance changes which your example shows as being the main issue.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: FCP in the workplace. - 13 years agoYou cant get the understanding of the broadcast workflow. You cant get the understand of why you need this to be in this particular codec instead of a substitute. I have never had anyone ask for anything more particular than sd or hd in my contracts. That depends. If Ron Howard was to cross my mind then i guess that means i have the budget for that. Your choices are determined by the budgets. If you can tell the same story and get different reactions or if you can get the same reaction with different stories, you are a good editor. Recognizing the tone and the subliminal ways to send this message. Bad (not horrid) acting SOMETIMES can be overcome by an editor. Bad camera work also. I disagree with the premise that FCS editors are some how less qualified. An environment is an environment whether it is in the big networks and studios or in a small 10 man production company. There are plenty of FCS editors that do back up properly and pass QC. They are often multifaceted understanding the entire process rather than my little part of the chain.
