Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoHow were you able to install FCP? I thought the installer would only run on OS versions that have Rosetta? I'm about to start a feature on FCP7 and I want to upgrade from my 2008 MacPro but I'm worried I'll never get FCP installed.by JoeE - Café LA Re: FCS Studio 2 Died and I'm reinstalling - 10 years agoThanks so much for your help Nick. I've found the problem. It was a bad media drive, not FCP. It mounts and I can read all the file names and even play one but it eventually crashes FCP and even crashes the finder if I try to copy a file from it to another drive. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Is this what something like disk warrior is for? Or do I just need to pay through the nose for a databy JoeE - Café LA Re: FCS Studio 2 Died and I'm reinstalling - 10 years agoTrying the reinstall with FCS3 now. Hopefully the pro app support will update from 7 to 7.03 which is what my project files are. If not, my last thing is to reformat the hard drive to Snow Leopard and see if the pro app support works for that arrangement, which I'm guessing it will.by JoeE - Café LA FCS Studio 2 Died and I'm reinstalling - 10 years agoMy FCP died in literally the last week of a show. I tried everything and then I decided to reinstall FCP. I first upgraded to Yosemite which allows the FCP installer to work and everything went great but it's FCP 6.0. I downloaded pro app update and it seems to have no effect, so the version of FCP I have is still 6. Am I missing a step? This was an FCS upgrade that was installed by the way.by JoeE - Café LA eSata and Mountain Lion - 12 years agoStarting a new project (MacPro early 2008 model 3,1) and want some better performance by possibly using eSata instead of FW800. Has anyone had any luck with any of the eSata cards with Mountain Lion. I tried a Sonnet E4P back when I was using Lion and could never reliably mount drives.by JoeE - Café LA Upgrading RAM from 8GB to 16GB on 2.8 Quad Core Xeon helpful for FCP? - 12 years agoI've been having a lot of crashes and "out of memory" alerts lately in Final Cut Pro (latest version.) Will upgrading RAM to 16GB do anything for me? I would be using all new RAM which maybe in itself would be good?by JoeE - Café LA - X Re: WWDC: New version of Final Cut Pro.... they said Pro and not X.. hmm. - 12 years agoRight. And I see now where the update was for X. I never knew that's what it was called. @#$%&. FCS will never be updated for retina display so that new laptop is useless.by JoeE - Café LA WWDC: New version of Final Cut Pro.... they said Pro and not X.. hmm. - 12 years agoI can't tell what this is, never having used FCX before.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Why would audio that lines up via waveform playback out of sync? - 12 years agoUpdate in case anyone runs into this: The .wav file sync up perfectly on the original timelines that the video was output from. For some reason, when the sequence is exported and imported, there is something telling the sound to run slower. That's what we've figured out so far.by JoeE - Café LA Why would audio that lines up via waveform playback out of sync? - 12 years agoI'm trying to get our closed caption files updated before we deliver and I took the h.264 of the preliminary files we made for them prior to mixing and lay in the final mix. So the .wav of the LtRt lay in at exactly the same length... I put them in ch 1 and 2 and keep the preliminary mix in ch 3 and 4. Everything lines up frame perfect visually on the timeline looking at the waveform monitor. Wheby JoeE - Café LA Re: Waveform display is messed up - 12 years agoActually, I found the problem. I had another waveform cache file folder on an attached hard drive! Thanks for suggesting I dump it again.... never would have found it otherwise.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Waveform display is messed up - 12 years agoYeah, I've done that a few times. It doesn't help. And yes, the clips have audio.... all this show is is people talking for hoursby JoeE - Café LA Waveform display is messed up - 12 years agoWhen I double click or match clip on a audio clip to load it in the viewer I'm not getting a waveform much of the time, just a blank audio view. I've trashed prefs and caches and it made no difference. Anyone know why this would be happening? And only happening like 75% of the time. With multitrack clips that I've matched clipped into the viewer, sometime I'll be able to see the waveform for tracby JoeE - Café LA Re: Looking to buy a Drobo array - 12 years agoYes. Yellow is what you get when a drive is getting full and they want you to replace it with a larger drive. Also if there's a minor issue, it may go yellow.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Media Drives - 12 years agoI've been using three different OWC Mercury Elite 4tb for the last 14 months without any problem at all. Every interface possible. Great customer service.by JoeE - Café LA Re: Headphone Recommendation - 12 years agoThey are a lot less on eBay. I'll give them a try. Thanks!by JoeE - Café LA Headphone Recommendation - 12 years agoI'm looking for headphones (when I'm at mixing level, it's too loud for others to work) that translate well to a temp mix for producer and press screenings. Right now I'm using Sony MDR-7506s and the playback through my speakers is not really sounding like what I'm hearing in the headphones. Any suggestions?by JoeE - Café LA What about EditDroid? - 12 years agoI actually cut a trailer for a film I was assisting on this George Lucas-financed machine. It used multiple Laserdisks which you burned yourself from a beta of your dailies. It worked on 30 minute loads so you had to be very strategic about where you burned your dailies if you were working on something longer than a promo. We tried to use it on a TV movie and gave up after a couple of days becausby JoeE - Café LA Merged multiclip match clip nightmare (it's all production's fault) - 13 years agoSo the crew had three days where the sound timecode and the two cameras all three had different timecodes. We sync each clip using the merge command and then multiclip everything. All is well. That is, until I have a track of sound only and then highlight it and click on match clip or match multiclip. Then I get a completely different picture, the picture that matches the original sound timecodeby JoeE - Café LA Re: Playback Glitch/Stutter with external drives - 13 years agoYeah, all new drives, two different ones just to be sure. All less than half full. It's just weird. And it sucks when something pops up right when you start a new projectby JoeE - Café LA Playback Glitch/Stutter with external drives - 13 years agoI've been using the same type OWC RAID 0 eSata drives for a couple of years and never had a problem before but in the last couple of weeks during playback on the timeline, not the source window, about every 4-6 minutes there's a stutter/glitch in the canvas window. The result is that the plasma attached to the Kona card loses sync.... so it's not something we can live with. I know it's related toby JoeE - Café LA Re: OT-Old Day Editing Systems - 13 years agoStarted on moviola, then to Ediflex and then to Montage. Wow, I remember waiting for tapes to cue... that's like waiting for rendering, but longer.by JoeE - Café LA What about rentals? What does a basic FCP setup cost these days to rent? Any recommendations for a rental house in LA? - 13 years agoI remember when a single system with Kona card and two displays rented for $1600/wk with a DV deck and no storage included. Doubt that's happening anymore.by JoeE - Café LA Rendering on the Timeline speed with iMac - 13 years agoAnybody compare the on timeline rendering times between a MacPro and a new iMac? Thinking of setting out an outputting station and if the iMac is fast enough, we'll save the money...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Choice of editing monitor - 13 years agoWe use a Panasonic Plasma. If you know someone with a professional monitor, they can come in and you can match it to their color bars and you have an awfully good large way to monitor color for not too much.by JoeE - Café LA Would More RAM Help Spinning Beachball? - 13 years agoAnyone running Lion finding that they are getting some spinning beachballs? I have the most recent FCP and there's a lot of wait time I didn't used to have and a lot of spinning beachballs. I have 8GB of RAM on a MacPro, early 2009 version. Does anyone have the experience of going to 16gb of RAM and did that help? It's a lot of money because I was told not to mix RAM brands so I have to get all nby JoeE - Café LA Re: Media Manage appends a -v onto some of the files - 13 years agoNope, Nick. That wasn't the problem. I'm now finding that in most cases I can just remove the "-v" and the whole file is there. The others I just convert through compressor separately and it's fine. But is sure is weird that this is happening...by JoeE - Café LA Re: Media Manage appends a -v onto some of the files - 13 years agoActually I just remembered that the latest batch was very small because they were renders from Color. Maybe I need to just manage them over without checking the box to recompress the unused portion. I'll try that in the morning.by JoeE - Café LA |
