Re: opening FCP5 projects in FCP4.5... works with XML! - 18 years agoMike: "Oh and also Nick, how are you and FCP 5 getting along with Quicktime 7.0.1? Any goofiness going on ?" no goofiness at all as far as i can see, unless this audio buisiness is part of it?? i upgraded pretty much straight away, as i'm kind of in "beta test" mode with my own system right now. i;ve sent you a write-up for aproval. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: opening FCP5 projects in FCP4.5... works with XML! - 18 years agoAndy: it;'s not that simple, unfortunatley trying this out i find: once the audio has been re-formatted to one track in FCP4.5 timeline it's stays that way when the project is opened in FCP5. the single track is now the left track, though. (!) that;s just the clip on the timeline, of course. the file stiull has both tracks of audio in it. you dont "lose" the audio from hte file, youby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Daisy chain camera laptop/ Backing up - 18 years agohi dylan. you;re smart enough to ask, so you;re no moron :-) Daisychaining is not going to fry your system. and if it works for you, then it works, and that;s that. to be safe, you should leave your DV device (camera / deck) powered off when you plug it it. leaving it powered on *could* fry your system. if you start getting drop frame warnings when you capture, then you know there's a probleby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Stereo/Split Audio Output - 18 years agoin 4.5 you will have to do 2 captures for each spot. FCP5 will capture multiple tracks simultaneously if your hardware suports it. does your kona card have 4 audio inputs? this is not relevent to your situation, but i just read that DV does not count as suported hardware for mutichanel audio capture. for your output, there should be no problem. you can rout the audio outputs of specific trackby Nick Meyers - Café LA opening FCP5 projects in FCP4.5... works with XML! - 18 years agothis might be old news.... i never opened a 4.5 project into FCP4.. i think this was possible with XML? anyway, i;ve just succesfully opened a FCP5 project into FCP4.5 using XML export and import. FCP5 offers 2 sorts of XML, version1 and version2. version 1 is the only one that will open in FCP4.5 i'm accessing 4.5 from the clone of my system i made before i installed Tiger, QT7 and the FCP5suby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: File management for editing - 18 years agoexcelent points, derek. a couple of things i;d add... Derek: > some people would assemble scenes in their own sequnces, but i dont do that. I find this fairly useful sometimes because it allows you to use "Render All" with impudence, and it's also very useful for reducing the amount of memory needed while editing.
