Re: Quicktime 7.5 is out - 15 years agoI thought this might be relevant: i saw this post and it rang a few distant bells, bells from november when i read the article.....by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: colour correcting problem.... - 15 years agoTo the rescue again Nick! Much appreciated! Am looking it up after i've made my first cup of tea for the day...! Cheers!by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: QT Rendering..... - 15 years agoThanks Nick, We were keeping it as HDV in the QT conversion, the original frame rate is 25fps which will be for 90% of the edit. Its only the 'cartoon effect' footage that we are messing with, which is being converted to 15fps or even 8fps. We tried numerous filters etc but its only by altering the frame rate do we achieve the desired effect. I'll run the reference qt/compressor idea past tby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: QT Rendering..... - 15 years agoThanks for the replies guys, very useful indeed. I recomended the compressor route initially using the hdv codec and just adjusting the frame rate, if thats cool i'll pass on the info again, Cheers!by FindonChrispy - Café LA QT Rendering..... - 15 years agoAt the production house where i am working, we have been using Digital anarchy's toon it with sapphire and producing a cartoon like effect by exporting the filtered clips via QT conversion and altering the frame rate. When we bring the qt file back into fcp it needs rendering. Is this down to the amount of info going on the in clip? Is it something to do with using the qt conversion? I recoby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: colour correcting problem.... - 15 years agoThanks strypes, just heading down that route now, just found a load of footage further down the line where the bright light from the windows is gone (ie: this part of the rushes shot later in the day), there a couple of key lights being used bu its a big room and the cameras are quite far from the subjects . But most of it looks underexposed and grainy..... joy! Thanks again for the replies...by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: colour correcting problem.... - 15 years agoThanks jude, tried that and it turns out i wasn't far off from what that process produces, it seems to be a case of bad cam positions, one camera has the whites blasted right out and the other has the subjects in shadow from the light behind. The Black levels are very concentrated on this camera. Luckily its only for the first 2-3 minutes so i'll try and work it in as a style!by FindonChrispy - Café LA colour correcting problem.... - 15 years agoHi, am using fcp 5.1.4 and am editing a program thats been shot using 2 cameras. (Z1's) One camera is darker than the other, but the one that is lighter is right by a huge window and the whites have been blown out slightly. The other cam is facing the windows making the subjects rather backlit. Using the 3 way corrector and magic bullet look suite i have been able to roughly match themby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: switching system drives........ - 15 years agoThanks jude, i'll hold off with my screw drivers until i've spoken to someone at my local mac place..........!by FindonChrispy - Café LA switching system drives........ - 15 years agoAt home i am still using a Powermac G4 Dual 1ghz which although is a bit old, suites me for what i do and i am saving (albeit) slowly for a new machine in the mean time. The problem i have is that the system drive is only 40 gb, while the internal libarary drive is 80gb. Is it possible to switch these and turn the larger drive into the system drive? Is there anyhting, i need to check firstby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Cutting long form HDV - 15 years agoI work with FCP 5.1.4 on an intel like yours using the HDV codec and my advice is if you stick with the native plan your work around the long conforming and rendering times, particularly if you apply broadcast filters, magic bullet etc...... I have found that you'll avoid being up against it when there is a deadline looming and stuff still needs rendering and conforming. The way i work is toby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Rather befuddling.... fx advice! - 15 years agoThanks for the replies guys, i forced myself to delve into the world of after effects and i found a way of doing it there playing with levels effects, fast blur and changing the transfer mode.... Looks like my journey into AE has finally started.....!by FindonChrispy - Café LA Rather befuddling.... fx advice! - 15 years agoI'm working on a project which the director requires a 'Bourne Ultimatum' type effect such as that seen in the 'flashback' type scenes. We're after that light streaking type effect. If anyone knows of how and where this might be or can be done it'd be much appreciated!by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Talking Head Transitions - 16 years agoCould always go with the good old fade to black or white to move further on in the dialogue, only really good for a definitive change in the subject matter or passing of time effect. But its worked for me on occasions. As has the HDV re-size mentioned earlier but with a 0.5 sec crossfade between shots. That can work quite nicely........by FindonChrispy - Café LA QT Audio problems - 16 years agoHello! At our office we use two macpro 2x2.66 intel xeons, 5gig ram, os 10.4.11 FCP 5.1.4 with QT 7.4.1 We regularly deal with HDV and QT everything to either be sent off to be put on dvd or laid off to tape. I have noticed recently that in the quicktimes odd bursts of noise have appeared in the audio, almost like white noise, sometimes in both or just one channel, that aren't in theby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: very strange issue with AJA KONA 3 - 16 years agoI havent had the visual glitch appear but on 3 occasions this week i have qt'd a sequence and had odd audio glitches appear out of nowhere that aren't in the original sequence...by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: field order HDV - 16 years agoI'm watching it back through my pal monitor and the canvas and can see the difference in both, the de-interlace seems to be part of the procedure here as they like the look it provides over the fully interlaced look. A selling point for the products here seem to be the film-esque look that gets made here. Though i dream about how much time would be saved if the had cameras that shot progressby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: field order HDV - 16 years agoi just did a test on a clip half with the fast de-interlace (set to upper) and half without and there is a difference. How comes? Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.....by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: field order HDV - 16 years agocool, so if i applied a de-interlace (or fast de-interlace as they use here) and set it to upper would this be pointless and waste of rendering time? I'm starting to think so but please do tell me if this isnt the case. Thanks for the reply by the way....by FindonChrispy - Café LA field order HDV - 16 years agoI work for a company that shoot with sony z1's and shoot dv and hdv. we are required to place a de-interlace filter on our footage to generate the look the director requires- change the field order from lower to upper. But i noticed today that the HDV footage captured in already has its field order set to upper. Is this right? I generally only work with DV where the field order is lower and thisby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: powermac G4: anybody using one? - 16 years agoi use a powermac g4 dual 1ghz with 1.5 ram at home and use fcp 514 quite happily. It'll just about handle hdv ok though i tend to stick with dv if i can. It takes a while with rendering after colour grading and magic bullet but that gives me time to do the hoovering and play ps2. Oh and i'm on 10.5.2 but would advise staying on tiger if you can to avoid potential headaches. I know the specsby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Monitor flicker - 16 years agoThanks, i think it is quite an old monitor but its good to hear its still got some life left in it! I have tried the opacity option before and it has worked but i have just made myself a colour corrector for future use. Cheers!by FindonChrispy - Café LA Monitor flicker - 16 years agoI am using a sony monitor (not sure of model) that has a nasty habit of making the picture jump or disappear completely whenever the whites are too bright. This is only a problem when trying to do an initial edit before colour grading. After this has been done there are no problems. Its only started since the start of the year. I am editing pal footage (dv) on a macpro 2x2.66 intel xeon wby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: WTF? - 16 years agoi recently discovered tis problem on some footage i have been working on, i tried all of dereks steps to no avail when i realised it was the colour correction filter causing the artefacts and pixelling to appear. I am using fcp 5.1.4, os 10.4.11 qt 7.4.1 on a 2.2.66 intel xeon with 5 gb ram. i was using the limit effect to keep the blues and reds while slightly desaturating the rest. (sorry for using the phrase 'apple' but it was that or 'the square with fancy cirlcled corners')by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Live screen capture - 16 years agoThanks derek, you are to the rescue once again!by FindonChrispy - Café LA Live screen capture - 16 years agoI have seen it done and would like to know how it is done for a piece of work that i am doing, basically, like in the various online tutorials how do you output and record what you are doing on your monitor. ie: for demo of software Some friends have made some new software and they want me to produce a dvd of the software being used but i dont want to point my camera at a monitor. Hope thisby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Bad png representation - 16 years agothe titles i made are png format from photshop into fcp, i notice that edwardian script from the fcp text generator looks awful too. There is a lot of pixelisation going on in the curves of the text. I made the title graphics the exact size i needed in photoshop so i havent been increasing or decreasing the size of them at all.....by FindonChrispy - Café LA Bad png representation - 16 years agoHello and good evenin'! I have just finished a trailer and title sequence, all of which is dv pal and the type face on all fonts look pixelated and awful. i'm using a 2 x 2.66 intel with 5gb ram, os 10.4.11 with photoshop 9.02 and fcp 5.1.4 we do regular software updates and are on qt 7.4. video is played out to a pal monitor through a kona card and set to 625i25 dv 8bit. i've beeby FindonChrispy - Café LA |
