I've been to three major stores and an Apple store. Nobody knows anything and each has led me to a goose chase with mis-information. Ended up buying a HD4650 which everything I read online says they don't work with Mac. Doesn't anybody use analog out to a pro analog monitor anymore? What card are you using? Do I need toby tduncan - Café LA Re: Strange, blurry NTSC - 13 years agoThanks Jude for the response. Since the OP I have exported one of the clips to quicktime movie using "current settings" and it comes out 720x480 and looks acceptable. Also exported using DV NTSC 48Khz and again looks fine. I may have lost some quality though in the import-export process. Here are the settings. seq: 720x480, NTSC DV3:2 NTSC - CCIR 601, lower, DV/DVCPRO clip: 720x480by tduncan - Café LA Strange, blurry NTSC - 13 years agoI haven't shot with NTSC in many months but recently did for an event. (HVX200 P2, 60i). In FCP the image plays very blurry, sort of like mosquito noise. But when stopped on a still frame it looks crystal clear. Same on my monitor. Very similar to what HDV looks like on a timeline. What is causing this? I checked the seq setting and clip settings, everything appears correct. I have upgraded toby tduncan - Café LA Re: AE into FCP and jagged edges - 17 years agoNo exporting as DV. Since my project and all video footage is DV. If I export with no compression it must be rendered on the timeline which is a pain and still looks as bad as DV. After eliminating everything else, I just discovered the problem. I am looking at a Sony 14" monitor connected to the ATI Radeon 9600 XT. The output for NTSC was set to 800X600 so I corrected it to 720x480. Fixeby tduncan - Café LA AE into FCP and jagged edges - 17 years agoI am having a hard time getting acceptable results with graphics footage originating in AE and brought into FCP. Are jagged edges inherently a part of working with DV or is there a workflow that will give me clean graphics? First off, I work primarily with dV footage (720x480) so assume a target of the sequence being DV. In AE I have tried 3 differnt variables... Comp size Layer size Outpby tduncan - Café LA Re: Exporting QT for web - 17 years agoThe problem I have is there are a lot of other parameters that require the quicktime conversion like fps, compression, audio settings etc. to get optimum web performance. Isn't there a simple way to get a streaming web file using the quicktime conversion to get 16:9? thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Exporting QT for web - 17 years agoI am having a heck of a time exporting a clip for the web. Primarily because the 16:9 image keeps coming out 4:3 and distorted or cropped. My timeline is DVCPRO-HD 1080i60 and I want to create a clip approx 320 x 270 (or should it be 180?) I have tried both sizes and also selected "preserve aspect ration using..." and here I have tried none, crop, and letterbox but I still don't come upby tduncan - Café LA Cleanest Font for Credit Roll ? - 17 years agoPlease suggest a clean font for a credit roll. I'll be using the Boris Title Crawler unless there is another way suggested. I have AE 6.5 but don't have time to play with the results. thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Help! - capture DVCPROHD and downconvert - 17 years agoThis is sort of an emergency. I shot a short with CineAlta for a film competition and need a solution to this problem today! I captured 5 tapes HDCAM to FCP and wanted to use the DVCPROHD codec which didn't quite want to sync during capture. Looking at the AJA site (Kona 2) and it made some sugestions and I finally got it to capture. If that is the wrong codec to use, don't ask me to go back becaby tduncan - Café LA Re: Capture with audio playback ON - 17 years agoThank you, that did it. I knew that it was somewhere less than obvious. I have never had a problem capturing SD from DSR-11 with audio on before, but once I get my mixer hooked back up I'll monitor off the deck as suggested. thanks a bunch, tdby tduncan - Café LA Capture with audio playback ON - 17 years agoPlease somebody help me. I asked this before and all I got was "why would you want to do that?" I used to have it set so I could hear the audio while capturing. After upgrading I cannot find the setting to turn the speaker ON. My AV settings capture preset shows Speaker: off but where can I change that? thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Re: keyframes in nested seq? - 17 years agoIt must be some kind of real-time/performance issue during playback because when I render the file out to mov or mpg it plays fine. thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA keyframes in nested seq? - 17 years agoWhy am I having trouble playing keyframes in a nested sequence? I have a still image that increases scale and also has a transition at the beginning and end. I have put the keyframes well before and after the begin and end of the xtion. The sequence plays fine. but when that sequence is nested into another, the keyframes are no longer outside the transition periods, so the image jumps in size.by tduncan - Café LA Re: audio playback dur capture - 17 years ago"In the log and capture window you'll find a checkbox for preview. Make sure that's checked as well." I looked at the log and capture windows for a long time and finally found it. Under 'clp settings', the audio section has a 'preview' check-box. But it appears that when I close the window and re-open for capture it is no longer selected. I would like to make this permanent. Did not tby tduncan - Café LA audio playback dur capture - 17 years agoAfter upgrading to 5.1.1 I lost my preset that had audio playback turned on during capture. Now for the life of me, I cannot find the 'switch' to have audio turned on. Looking at 'AUDIO/VIDEO SETTING, the preset summary shows speaker off. I assume this should be on, but cannot find a place to edit this setting. help? thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Drive failed after OSX upgrade? - 17 years agoWeirdest thing. I upgraded my OSX to 10.4.x and immediately after the disk utility show the Maxtor drive with a S.M.A.R.T. failure. Not the system disk either, the work disk. Highly unlikely in my opinion. (All the files are there and have backed up the drive.) Yet there is no SMART utility for Macs ? Anybody have experience with this? thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Re: Lost audio from P2 files - 17 years agoI just realized that I was trying to play the quicktime files on FCP 10.3.9. Quicktime 6.5 (my older system) vs. my new MacBook with the latest everything, where it was originated. THAT solved the 'problem'! Sorry for the idiocy on my part. thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Lost audio from P2 files - 17 years agoI imported my P2 files just fine, which converted them to QT files on the hard drive. check. Play those files in QT and everything is fine, audio plays good. Import that same QT file into FCP 5.1 but there is no audio. Also interprets 1A mono which should be stereo 2 trck. It appears FCP is not reading the file correctly and I cannot find any type of import options. The files are 720/60P if thaby tduncan - Café LA MacBook version of OSX? - 17 years agoI went to install OSX on my G5 but it says it is looking for MacBook hardware. Are there different versions of install disks for OSX or? thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA Re: is 5.1 common yet? - 17 years agoWhy version 1? What about ver 2? Is it because 1 is the lowest common format? Any advantge to 2? thanks, tomby tduncan - Café LA LaCie disks and sleep mode? - 17 years agoI have a macBook 15" with FCP 5.1 and a couple 1Tb Lacie extremes. Why do the disks keep spinning down after a few minutes of no activity? Can I turn this off? My searches have been to no avail and the powersave features are turned off already. thanks, tdby tduncan - Café LA New external drive setup - 17 years agoI'm kinda new to Macs, though I've been editing for a few years on one, the OS is still a bit foreign. What is the best type of format (I think it's called 'erase') for external media drives. Extended? Journaled or no? And on another topic, I recently bought 4 LaCie 1Tb extremes. 1 doesn't want to mount everytime. But what really scares me is I backed up 400G to a second one, then synchronizedby tduncan - Café LA HVX200 + FCP + MacBookPro? - 18 years agoIs this not a good setup? I am getting a lot of mixed signals from web forums and apple stores. First no PCMCIA slot or FW800 on the MBP. Now I am hearing that it doesnt play FCP very well? Should I get a G4 instead? What is a good HD equipment workflow if you were starting out from scratch? (I already have the camera). Assuming I want to keep FinalCut and need portable HD for clients to view.by tduncan - Café LA |
