Hi again, Sorry for the basic question, couldn't search the answers quickly in the manual: doing my first multicam project in v5.1.2, and I know there's a way to view all the layers in the canvas at once instead of one at a time. went to the view pull down and selected "multiclip 4-up," but nothing changed - is that what that should mean? Hi there gang, My new colleague wants to shoot a mini-doc and is considering the HVX200 at 1080/24p. This would be a one-off, not the main HD project in March which will use different cameras. I read a little (always dangerous!) about this camera and saw that it captures 1080 progressively, but along an interlaced stream... is this true for tape but not for capture-to-disk? feel like I'm chattin with myself here, but serves me right: I just re-read my other thread to discover that part of this wuestion has been answered. With the Kona card, the one I'll have, apparently one can - at capture - convert 1080/24p to 720/24p. Great to know. OK friends, I just reread this thread and realized I'd missed an important point. Glad to know about the capture from 1080/24p to 720/24p is possible with the Kona card, as that's the card I'll be getting. Are there any pitfalls to be aware of? So I just found out that they are not sure yet which cameras they'll use. The basic info I need to know is: If you shoot on HDCAM, 1080/24p, can you capture into FCP at 720/24p with the DVCProHD codec, using an HDCAM deck? Or do you need to have shot at 720/24p in order to capture that way (or else downconvert the tapes first which is not going to be an option in this case)? If y'all knby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi again gang, Looks like I've been offered the HD job I applied for 2 weeks ago: yay! Still waiting to hear about the HDCAM camera model they will be using, all I know so far is that they're large Panasonic studio cameras, and that they plan to shoot at 1080/24p with 4 cameras, a live switcher, a mixer sound feed, and simultaneous projection. Thanks Mike, I'll take all of that under consideration! It seems a bit silly to delete my account if all of my past posts are still on google. But I may decide to do so. I have no problem with all you colleagues knowing my ID. Lambasting is a tad STRONG, but still - I know we've had our moments of client kvetches. I don't misrepresent my skills to my clients, and over the years I have had to grow comfortable learning in front of them, it's part of the job: constant teachability, and results in a growing confidence in one's ability to figure out stuff (with and without the help of this fab forum). Thanks- the potential complication is that they are a team of peops in various locations who all needd to view the reels to make their decisions, over this weekend. So if I used you send it (I have used it before, I think the free allowance was 100MB), would they all be able to access it? Yo Gang, I do not have a web or ftp site yet. There is a freelance gig I want to apply for that requires posting an online reel immediately. It turns out there is a "nother" reason for shooting hi-def, found out today that, at the live event half the audience is viewing the speakers, live, the switcher version, on a large screen outside the auditorium. And when I said "no cards," I meant no P2 cards. They are planning to get Kona cards... Can't spill the exact content yet but it is basically illustrious peopby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

They are preparing for open ended future uses of the material, and it is really wonderful content. I do think it's overkill to take something so big to compress it that small, but that part is not my choice. They are talking about getting an HDCAM deck and an Xraid, later an Xsan, and editing totally native, these are fast weekly edits, ongoing. A new edit each week. I think they use Panasonic cameras, I'll be finding out more details tomorrow. I have used HD in the past, Varicam shot onto DVCam tapes (720p with the DVC Pro HD Codec), but this is HDCAM 1080 24p. LOVE this thread! My New years Rez this year was to get more and better sleep. You have inspired me to get a test now, I'm going to look into it. I have a 13 year old hound dog alarm clock, 5:30/6 in the morning... that means I need to get to bed earlier, or else take a nap, 2 really hard habits to shift... Is the camera STILL? Are there any moving objects (like a person's silhouette, in front of the screen) that overlap the edges of the screen's shape, or is it a clean rectangle? If it's clean, and still, a matte will do you just fine. If not, it's going to be a frame by frame experience...
