Re: The smallest compression she's ever seen - 17 years agoMike, Not everyone has that "high speed" connection (you be surprised how many outside of LA). I worked with a clueless client still on a 56k dialup. Gotta take care of those guys, tooby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: The smallest compression she's ever seen - 17 years agoClients for the most part are not tech-saavy. Even if you post a link to a posted server, your client will still have to download 63 megs to view it and if they have a dial-up modem, it's just gonna pi$$ them off because it will take forever... I do this everyday - at least 3 times a day: I squash aprox. 850 MB :30 second commercials (Uncompressed 4:2:2) down to 320 x 240 / 29.97 fps / 22khz -by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Pleasantville Effect in FCP5 - 17 years agoSorry...you didn't mention FCP5 in your post I'm still at 4.5 - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: AJA Io -- a good product? - 17 years agoI use it everyday for Broadcast TV Commercial output to DigiBeta. VERY high quality - it just works great. If you are doing HD, look at the Kona2 card. If not (just BetaSP & DV), then the Aja IO is the perfect solution. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Final Cut has been cut - 17 years ago"...Liberty University is a Christian academic community" Like I said...beancounters & non-creatives. Everyone knows G_d loves Avid anyway! (j/k) "...Right now it may be the industry standard, but as i have said in the last few days i believe FCP WILL be the industry standard in hollywood within ten years" Sean, Weren't you the one that was flaming me no too long ago foby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Final Cut has been cut - 17 years ago"...Sad Days ahead" Don't be silly, dude. Yes, Avid IS the "industry standard"... but FCP is growing in the marketplace and to not teach it is shortsighted on the facility's part. Doesn't mean you shouldn't learn the Avid... it will be valuable tool in your toolbelt when you start interning (especially in a large market like LA). Academics are not Artists...they are bean coby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I hate Avid (stupid rant) - 17 years agoHey Derek, Don't forget...this started as a stupid rant by a frustrated Avid hater. Just wanted to point out there are others on the other side of the fence that feel the same way about FCP. I use & love them both Peace - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I hate Avid (stupid rant) - 17 years ago<<< And besides, putting thousands of cuts on the same timeline is a huge pain in the neck anyway and, given the multi-timeline system of FCP, shouldn't be done. >>> Derek, That's a cop out. You know what I mean by "accidentally clicking & dragging clips"... doesn't have to be a 1000 clips... could be a dozen... could be ONE. An accidental "click & drag&qby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Ass-crack management - 17 years agoYou are better off using an animated feathered masked blur... a mosaic will call extra attention to the a$$cracks (They'll look like digital hemorrhoids - unless that's what you are going for). - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I hate Avid (stupid rant) - 17 years agoDISCLAIMER TIME: OK... this is not a FLAME WAR, but my "experienced Editor's opinion" - I use both NLE's daily: "...I can't seem to just grab something and move it" Believe it or not, this is a huge problem in FCP if you are not used to it. I can't believe your sound guy didn't even suggest it... pretty much standard for any professional shoot. I would go back to your location (or a similar one) and record live room tone. Sound is taken too much for granted. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: using final cut pro as an online suite - 17 years agoTo address the original post... sounds like you want an Avid DS ($145,000). You just expect waaaaay too much out of a $1000 editing package...I don't think you understand what FCP is. FCP suites will never compete with Flame / Inferno in a million years... I use FCP / Aja IO for onlining for Broadcast air everyday (to a DigiBeta master)...but there's no client sitting behind me and I do ALL my gby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: LaCie at lafcpug July 27 - 17 years ago"...Ask him what they're actually using inside these days." Boy, I wish I was in California attending this meeting. I had it out with their Tech AND Sales Departments for days on the phone and in emails - NEITHER could tell me from day to day what drive manufacturers were in there (it was like the blind leading the blind). They said it changes all the time. On the other hand, G-Technolby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: OT: In memoriam: James Doohan - 17 years agoWell said, Loren. He was a great "character" indeed. Humor me...Try unplugging your Computer from the wall, you FW drive from the computer and also from the wall for 10 minutes - no more, no less. The FW bus fuses reset themselves and my LaCie came back after I did this. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Screen Grab of Glitch - 17 years agoIt looks likes a corrupt Compressor. Did you try Uninstalling FCP? There is a document on the Apple site that lists all the items that have to be deleted. It's FCP4, but I would try it.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: NTSC Monitor burn in - 17 years ago...you probably saved a ton of $$$ buying it on ebay anyway, so cut your losses and keep an eye out for another one down the road. At least you have one...a lot of folks are editing with no output monitor at all. ...silly, huh? - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Hard drives - Maxtor - 17 years agoI'm with Kev...Seagate or Hitachi Maxtor = death (sooner than later). - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: OT: Anyone in the Florida Panhandle area... - 17 years agoNo, man...LA is ridiculous in the Real Estate market. I would love to live, work & attend LAFCPUG meetings in LA, but it's out of our price range. The older you get and the bigger your family gets, the harder it is to make a cross-country move.
