Are you in a PAL country? because you said you shot PAL video and having iDVD do your NTSC framerate conversion can look very nasty...Gramme Nattress has a nice plug-in for that.... Also, i suggest doing your downconversion and compression before hand, although then you must use DVDSP. Take the Exported QT and drop it in Compressor and choose the appropriate pby Scott Erickson - Café LA Pro-Res in the real world... - 15 years agoThis is the main thing to come out of NAB that i still don't really understand. How is this going to be integrated into my day to day workflow? I'm not ingesting dailies, I don't need to do onlines, I am shooting more and more HD and am curious about how this can help my storage issues. It was really interesting that Apple brought up that all our new Codecs are developed for camera issues andby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: OT - Flash overtaking Quicktime? - 15 years agoFor getting your content out to the maximum number of people, Flash is the way to go, nearly everyone has it and with some basic flash skills, you can use it pretty creatively. With lots of skills, like Marco, you can use it professionally for clients in a way that i think, frankly beats Adobe Clips notes. Can't wait to see the drawing ability integrated in newer versions of MediaBatch... QT aby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Making Flash movies - 15 years agoIf you have Flash 8 Pro or Flash CS3, exporting to FLV becomes an option in your QT Conversion export que. I'm pretty sure you can also download the codec from their site directly as well. It's a pretty straight forward process once you have the codec, just adjust your settings to what you want and then you get a FLV to go with your MOV... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 5.1 monitoring - 15 years agoThat's really interesting to find that out....If you are going to design in 5.1, you need to have some real feedback, moving the "puck" is a great visual tool but not enough. For those of use who do not have a card but want 5.1 authoring ability, using the QT workaround kinda sucks...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Training DVD's - 15 years agoWell, I gotta do the right thing and speak up for the Online Training Library at Lynda.com Venerable pro Larry Jordan guides you through most of the studio apps as well as giving you access to a large array of other training programs for a monthly fee. Plus you get access that day, no waiting around for the DVDs in the mail(tho you can still order the DVDs as well)...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Motion 3... - 15 years agoWell, I can't believe Im the first to bring it up but I, for one, and extremely excited to see Motion get a full overhaul. It's basically everything I could have asked for(3d, cameras, optical flow) and more(smoothcam, music synch). Im excited to get some hands on experience with it, although im hoping my graphics card will be up to the task of real time 3D.... I've never been one for the wholby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: SONY HDR-FX1 - 16 years agoyou can use "i:link" on your camera to downconvert your HDV signal to a DV signal that is the equivalent as what your DVX put out. I'm pretty sure you have to use the Firewire cable to get that downconvert for that tho...you will obviously lose access to your HD content although if you are going to DVD you're pretty much losing most of your quality anyway... JVC did make a HDV DVD deby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Select by Word - 16 years agoNot sure what you mean by custom, Traversal or Select? What paramenter to animate? Location, Start, end, the actual paramenter im sequencing? I tried all of these to no avail and got nothing...by Scott Erickson - Motion Select by Word - 16 years agoOk, this should be easy. i want text to write itself typewriter style but by word, not by letter. So i use sequence in from left and modify select to Word but then it loses the whole starting from blank to filling itself in that seleft All had, and instead only sequences in and out the area it has selected currently, the other areas stay up all the time. Nothing else changed besides selectby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: Upgrade killed my filters! - 16 years agoYes all filters....but issue was solved. Render Filters had been turned off by someone in the sequence...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Upgrade killed my filters! - 16 years agoOk yesterday, we upgraded a station to FCP 5.1.4 and QT to 7.1.5. Today, filters are applying but not effecting the actual clip, regardless of the render. Restarted FCP and comp, trashed preferences, etc etc but nothings really helping... i can use Motion for a workaround temporarily but this is kinda a major issue as we are doing a lot of masking and we need our blur back... Thanks...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Alpha channel dislay - 16 years agoOK, I did some preliminary exploring and searching but i still ended up here... Where can i control how FCP displays alpha channels in the viewer?? My station here at work displays anything with alpha as pure white which is horrible, my comp at home displays it at as black which is fine until i filled in for someone whose comp showed alpha as the checked pattern, ala photoshop which seems ideaby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Timecode in Multiclip? - 16 years agooh thats freakin awesome, thanks so much. I just saw it blanked out and didnt look further down the list...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Timecode in Multiclip? - 16 years agoHey all- Just wondering if you knew if it's possible to display the timecode for all the clips in multiclip viewer? The timecode overlay seems to be disabled and the timecode in the corner only shows the current clip selected. I have to do lots of cuts based on different clips timecodes and i'd love to see them all at once...maybe this could be a future FCP addition if its not available now??by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: DSP burning question... - 16 years agoThe prefs will show you where the temp storage is, as well as for the build folders. Dont forget to empty your trash tho as well. Changing the bitrate in the prefs doesnt affect anything tho, until you open a new project, as i recallby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Need Advice On Using A Panasonic AGDVX100B - 16 years agoThe mic on the DVX is not the best so do try and get some other form of audio, you can rent a wireless lav for less than $50 probably. It's worth it, plus you can also rent a whole kit that comes with the wireless transmiter for your XLR mic as well, than you can hand a mic to anyone at the reception and it will sound great. Just make sure your settings are right on the camera audio so you get onby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 24P shot on dvx100 looks awful on DVD - please help!!! - 16 years ago24p just records the fields in such a way that it looks like its displaying 24fps, its not, its 29.97fps all the way. In fact it should be displayed as 60i. I think its something to do with your compression, from what i know, it should be 29.97 interlaced.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: DVDSP 4 video on menu question - 16 years agoOK, this should work...take your PSD and delete everything but the black screen of the monitors, Dont move anything and make one PSD for each monitor. Drag the PSD over the menu and wait until you can select apply as a drop zone. Apply it as a drop zone and then drag the video clip and put it in the drop-zone. This should mask the video to within the drop zone. As for making the video only aby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Need Advice On Using A Panasonic AGDVX100B - 16 years agook, real quick because i just lost my first post... 24 is only really for film out, otherwise just use 30p. There is no difference in exposure time, only how the signal is recorded to tape, this is not film. 30p will get you a nice filmish look with no hassles later in editing, stay away from 60i. You can adjust your shutter speed for more light but it will heavily effect how the motion looksby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Getting to 23.98 from 29.97 - 16 years agoFantastic, I kept trying to export from FCP to get rid of the pulldown to no avail, Compressor just blended and i guess my settings we're wrong in Shake because the test came out super interlace-ey. I didn;t even think to look in the tools menu, that would be too obvious.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Getting to 23.98 from 29.97 - 16 years agoI have some footage that i need to multicam but the frame rates are different. It was a mixed HVX/DVX shoot and the DVX 24pA footage was not captured properly and now im stuck with out the tape and only the file. How do i remove that pull down with out capturing on the fly? Thanks...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Is there loss of quality going from DVD to DVD? - 16 years agoDVD's are in MPEG-2 so the quality is never going to get better than that. You can convert them yourself in Compressor and do a pretty decent job, especially if you have short form content. Just take your exported QT from FCP and drop it into Compressor and apply the best preset(90mins dual pass is pretty good if you have the time). How did you make the DVD you gave them? If you dont want toby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Formats for reality show - 16 years agoSince we're on the subject, does anyone know what they shoot Laguna Beach on? The show is crap but it looks beautiful. It's 16x9 but are they still shooting at SD or HD and downconverting? Just curious...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Do I still need to settle for less with Compressor? - 16 years agoIf you do try Studio Pro, make sure you set the Compressor settings first in preferences, and than open a new project. How long is your project? If it's not significantly long, (hour or so) you can just throw a lot of bandwidth at it and skip the Dual-Pass. Although, I still always do a Dual-Pass if i have the time...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 24p Standard Definition upres?? - 16 years agoBut Shane, what about your DVCPRO HD UpRez Compressor tutorial? You had such faith in it.... Time constraints I know, I know, a couple minute test clip took me several hours. Nice to know its there thoby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Modify Mouse, not just keyboard layout... - 16 years agoYeah and using R, S, & A have been cutting it for a long time but now im doing a lot of work where i have to switch very very often, to the point where I'd want a Modifer key like I do for the Pen tool. Thank god for that tho, I couldn't stand having to go from A all the way the P every few seconds, A to R is hard enough right now and they are close to each other... My solution for nowby Scott Erickson - Café LA Modify Mouse, not just keyboard layout... - 16 years agoOk, i'm getting into modifying keyboard commands late, I figured Apple's commands were good enough for Apple, they're good enough for me. I was wrong, I love my new arrangements. However... I'd like to modify how the mouse works, like assign different tools by holding a modifier key without actually changing tools. Such as how holding OPT in Arrow mode over Rubberbands switches to Pen mode.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: HDV, or Blank Tape - 16 years agoCapturing from a non-HDV deck(DSR-25) with HDV footage gives me time-code only, no image, no audio, just blue screen. Although once from a normal DV camera, not a deck, I saw no timecode either...So I think it can varyby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Create handheld effect with footage shot from tripod - 16 years agoMotion can do this pretty easily, and with out keyframes or plug-ins. Ctrl-Click on the clip, select send to Motion, Scale the clip up to 105% or so, then ctrl-click on the text portion of the Positon tab and select wiggle. Do the same for Rotation. Adjust for taste...by Scott Erickson - Café LA |
