Mark applemotion.netby markspencer - Motion Re: default text in Motion - 18 years agoNo way to do that the way you are describing. But you can save your adjusted text as a preset and just use that each time, nice and easy - once you have the text the way you want it, drag it to one of the following folders in the Library: Text Styles, Favorites, or Favorite Menu. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Dots IN, Dots OUT - 18 years agoYou need to change the source image for the replicator (the cell) from a dot to the outline you want. Create the outline with the shape tool (make a circle, turn on outline, turn off fill) and drag it onto the Replicator. Turn off the existing cell. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Fading Filters - 18 years agoNot sure what you mean by "use basic motion"? You can't use a behavior on a filter, if that's what you mean - but it's extremely easy to keyframe a filter's parameters - just set the one you want to zero to turn off the effect (blur, glow, whatever), hit "A" to turn on record animation, move your playhead to where you want the effect to ramp up, and change the value.by markspencer - Motion Re: Fading Filters - 18 years agoYes, you can keyframe just about any parameter of any filter. Markby markspencer - Motion applemotion.net updated - 18 years agoMotion fans, I've updated my site where I've been keeping track of all the Motion resources out there - hope it's helpful: www.applemotion.net Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Intro. Motion Classes? - 18 years agoSarah, in lieu of personal help, there is a lot of great Motion info, tutorials, tips, etc. on the web for free. I keep a complete listing here: Markby markspencer - Motion Re: FCP to Motion workflow - 18 years agoIf you just want titles with an alpha background, make sure you turn off the visibility of the FCP clips you sent to Motion. Alternatively, use the Embed function - FCP will automatically create a new sequence in your browser that contains the original clips so you don't lose them.by markspencer - Motion Re: pushing 60 pix back in frame... - 18 years agoRendering?? You are working in Motion, bro! You could make a Photoshop Action to resize all your shots to the correct size; select them all in Motion in the File Browser, drag to the mini-timeline and import as sequence....apply a grow/shrink behavior to all of them and modify - whole process should take maybe half an hour, one hour tops. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Film filter plug-in for Motion - 18 years agoIf you like the filter in FCP, apply it there, export a self-contained movie (no conversion, reimport and replace, then go to motion. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: ARGGGG!!!!!! - 18 years agoI don't see this behavior, but I rarely copy-paste - try duplicating objects and layers instead (option-drag in the Canvas or hit Command-D) Markby markspencer - Motion Re: motion effect help - 18 years agoSure, use an image mask. Select the video clip in the Layers tab, and choose Object>Add Image Mask. Then drag the particle emitter (assuming you already placed it in your project) from the Layers tab onto the image mask, or into the well in the dashboard or the Inspector. Set it to Alpha and you should be good to go. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Transparency - 18 years agoAh, greyscale - that's your problem. Change the color mode in PS to RGB.by markspencer - Motion Re: FREEBIE! Motion FILMSTRIP template - 18 years agoThese are great Peter! Thanks!by markspencer - Motion Re: Transparency - 18 years agoEither import the .psd file or save an alpha channel and save as PCT or TIFF. If you still don't see transparency, check the alpha interpretation - import the object, select it in the Media tab of the Project Pane, then go to the Media tab of the Utility pane - it's at or near the top. Shift-F is the keyboard shortcut to get there quickly. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: RSS Visualizer - Appropriate Program? - 18 years agoI don't know what Apple used, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Motionby markspencer - Motion Re: RSS Visualizer - Appropriate Program? - 18 years agoThe text animation you see there is done in 3D space which Motion does not currently have. It does have a 3D filter, but you can't change the point around which the object rotates in 3D space. After Effects is the place to go.by markspencer - Motion Re: Question -Motion 2 export with Alpha - 18 years agoWell, it depends on what you are trying to do, but you basically need to make a black and white image, with black being the area of the highlights (for the basic version; you can do a 4-bit version as well with black at 0%, 33%, 66%, and 100% to get 3 highlight colors). I usually make a new layer for my highlights so I can turn the whole thing off. I draw a white rectangle over the full canvas, aby markspencer - Motion Re: Question -Motion 2 export with Alpha - 18 years agoYes, you still need the highlight still, but you can create it in Motion and export it as a still easily enough.by markspencer - Motion Re: Question -Motion 2 export with Alpha - 18 years agoMotion is EXCELLENT for making DVD menus - I make all my DVD menus with Motion now. You don't need to export a movie - just bring the Motion project file directly into DVDSP. And with Motion2, you can set a loop marker that DVD will read and automatically set a loop point for the menu. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: This can't be right - 18 years agoThat's correct, you can't have more than one object on a track in Motion. But you have access to every object on the layer itself, so you can close the layer and still select, move, and trim in the timeline. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: more to do about workflow - 18 years agoDrag the clip to the browser. Scroll over to the anamorphic column and add a checkmark.by markspencer - Motion Re: motion workflow - 18 years agoNo, it will simply render into your chosen codec, same as if you rendered out of Motion.by markspencer - Motion Re: motion workflow - 18 years agoYou'll need to go back to FCP, and you'll have to render. I usually only send from FCP to Motion the section that I want to modify - sounds like you sent the entire sequence?by markspencer - Motion Re: FCP > Motion and then back again - 18 years agoThat's how it works: your clips get replaced with the Motion project file. If you want to edit further, right click on the project file and choose "open in Editor". Btw, when you Send to Motion, FCP creates a backup copy of the clips you exported in a sequence in your Browser, in case you need it. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Import Photoshop Layers - 18 years agoI have a client that works with 600-layer photoshop files in Motion. Are you sure you are importing a .psd file with multiple layers?by markspencer - Motion Re: Import Photoshop Layers - 18 years agoYou don't get that option until you drag the file from the file browser to the canvas and keep the mouse button held down. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Importing vector graphics from Illustrator - 18 years agoFirst, don't export from Motion - just bring the Motion project file into FCP. But if you must export a movie, make sure that your background is set to 0% opacity in the project properties, and make sure your export settings includes the alpha channel - there is a preset for this.
