Re: New forums at lafcpug - 17 years agoExcellent...thanx, Mike You really should get paid for your hard work on this forum - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out smoke? Help! - 17 years agoMy role in this business since film school has always been a troubleshooter (Editing / FX / Sound Design)...I just seemed inherited a lot of bad shoots that needed fixin' that nobody else would touch. I don't know when it happened. I don't know when it will end. Unfortunately, DP's & Directors on a budget tend to "shoot everything - fix it in Post". Today's "film-like" tecby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out smoke? Help! - 17 years agoIan, I requested the clip for eval...he wants an estimate without me seeing the ftg... now wants to give it a go himself. I don't think he realizes there's no magic plug-in for "Smoke Removal". There's probably gonna be some intricate work involved. Oh well, Good Luck FCP.user! If you change your mind, get me that clip (and a clean bkgd clip) so I can take a look. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: FEATURE REQUESTS - FCP 5.x BE SPECIFIC! - 17 years ago1. Better media Manager - please. 2. An honest to goodness TIME REMAPPING TOOL that creates clips using something similar to Avid's FluidMotion Technology that doesn't use lame-a$$ "frame blending", but uses "pixel morphing" technology. From Avid's site: Avid's patented FluidMotionª technology gives editors rampable motion effects that track every pixel in the image to synby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Deciding between FCP or Avid - 17 years agoIf your workflow is staying Avid through finishing (Symphony, DS), Avid's the way to go. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Edit out smoke? Help! - 17 years agoFrame by frame painting (or rotoscoping) is very expensive. The longer the scene, the more $$$. I would like to see this clip. Can you post it somewhere & email me? Which HD 24p resolution is the clip (what are the numbers)? How long is the smoke visible in the scene? Is this like a big puff of smoke, or lines of smoke like a cigarette gives off? Removing widely spread smoke is pretty imposby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Best Capture card? - 17 years agoEddie, AJA I/O is not a capture card...it's a I/O unit that uses your motherboard's FireWire 400 Port to move the data - which leaves an extra port for that Decklink Extreme card (or a Kona2 if you ar planning on going HD). We use 2 - Aja I/O's at my studio for Broadcast TV - SDI to / from DigiBeta - rock solid since day 1. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: QT 7.0.2 is now available - NM - 17 years agoJeez...Dual 2.5 Ghz / 4 Gig RAM / OS 10.4.2 / QT 7.0.2 / FC Studio 5.0.2 / C4D / AE / PS CS2 / ILL CS2 ALL CLEAR HERE (LOL) - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: terabyte directory damaged - 17 years agoIt's only a matter of time with LaCie. If you are on Tiger, I hope you were using Disk Warrior 3.0.3. for Tiger. Attempting to rebuild a disk with DiskWarrior 3.0.2 or earlier, while started from Tiger, will result in an error stating that a "Mac OS Services" failure occurred. - Joey Post Edited (09-08-05 14:42)by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Smoke and Fire effect - Help!!! - 17 years ago1. bogiesan is right - best realistic solution is to shoot it... otherwise you will need a skilled compositor to make this look real with plug-ins & pyro FX. 2. Disagree with Motion... it DOES NOT do convincing photo-realistic fire, period. I call it "late night low-budget cable spot" fire (really cheesy & fake). Smoke FX can be nice if composited correctly. For REAL fire &by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: OT ethics / documentary question - 17 years agoWayne, I think it's great that you're volunteering. From what I am seeing on various news casts, you better choose your words wisely because some of these people are ready to snap (can you blame them?). If I was in Texas, I would get a hold of a Sony HVR-Z1U HDV Camera and really record the scope of the disaster and the enormity of the Astrodome in HDV. I'll shut up now Peace - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: my apartment is warm - 17 years agorgdfilms, That's the most ridiculous question I ever heard. I can't believe what I am hearing. Don't you know that HEAT is bad for computer gear??? Not only do you need to cool the room, but get the gear off the floor (I'll bet your CPU's are on the floor) and don't slam them up against a wall so that air can't flow through the box. HEAT = BAD Of course, you need an A/C unit. If you have one uby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: when the levee breaks . . . - 17 years ago"...The silence from Europe and the rest of the world to offer us help of any kind is absolutely sickening." Kevin Carr, Do a little research before making such an ignorantly flippant statement. I don't know if they have cable TV, Satellite or the internet on the planet you are on at this moment, but you might want to log on and look something up. I use both FCP HD & Xpro and I know some of you use both too, so don't flame me...just trying to spread the wealth: - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Sounds - 17 years agoYou can't beat Sounddogs.com - kicks a$$: I bought their "Holiday Pack" last year for $11 and I use it all the time. High quality, affordable. - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: OT: Katrina - 17 years agoBoca got nothing - she'll be fine there. It's way south of there (Ft. Lauderdale, Hallandale, North Miami Beach, Miami, Homestead, etc). My old familiar 7-11 on the corner of Hallandale Beach Blvd & A1A was flattened...pumps & all. Regarding the "dogleg", I gotcha. Unfortunately, Hurricanes keep moving & in the 90º water of the gulf, it just gets stronger FASTER. A doglegby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: OT: Katrina - 17 years agoSorry, Mike...but living in Florida, I can't pull for a CAT5 to do a "dogleg" and possibly end up back in FL. I want that thing as far away from FL as possible Katrina already passed through my Mother-In-Law's side of town in Miami last week - flooding everywhere - kids are riding waverunners in the streets. I can't imagine what New Orleans (which is situated below sea level) is goingby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Swift Data 200 expansion advice - 17 years agoAs far as any heat issue goes in a G5, use common sense to place your tower wisely. Do not set it on the floor if you can help it (less dust gathers in the unit). Hang it from under your desk or put it on top. Do not jam the back up against a wall...it's all about the air flow - Joeyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 17 years agoAdam, Take it easy - we're all adults here. Mike, I agree with you 1000% that you should never make a decision based on a Demo. If I did that based on the last demo I attended, I would have dumped FCP a few months ago when I attended the worst demonstration of Apple Pro Apps I have ever seen. I attended a FCP Studio Demo down here in Orlando, FL and it was the worst presentation I evby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 17 years agoFrom the Avid site: Avid Mojo Component Video I/O Option Avid Mojo supports component input and output via a professional I/O cable option. Two cables are provided - one for input and one for output. Customers who require component video I/O simply connect the cables into Avid Mojo's s-video and composite input and output connectors. The cables each terminate with three BNC connectors for cby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 17 years agoAdam, Nobody here is going to convince you to change. There really is no reason to when you can learn BOTH at today's prices. If you want Avid feedback from Mac users using it every day, go HERE and do a forum search for FCP vs. Avid (there's a lot of heated debate, as you can imagine). I've taken my lumps there for endorsing myself as a FCP HD user: It's the Express Pro (Mac) forum on Avid.cby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Upgrading to FCP5 now or later - 17 years agoRod, My hand was forced, so I went against my better judgement and I went the other route. I was on Panther / FCP 4.5 and I had a FCP project file that would not launch. I had just saved to it a few minutes earlier and closed it for lunch. I came back from lunch and launched it - instant quit with no error message. I recently got used to the included programmable 5 button cordless mouse because it's fatter than normal and fits my extra large hand better than those prissy laser mice. The scroll wheel is also SUPER-handy for menu scrolling & zooming (among other things). I had the "puck" a few years back on a G3, but I got that pby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: I need some great fire wipes? - 17 years agoPyromania Pro Collection: I use these all the time. Mix & Match.
